Had someone affiliated with Rebounders tell me, "Avery Johnson is a name to watch".
Don't forget to say you can't wait for these seniors to leave. That has been the narrative for about 10 years now. The seniors are the problem, so and so bench player would make us better and just wait for our underrated NBA ready recruits.

Making $2.8 per. If we're throwing money around to top that, I'd think we could do better yeah? Avery Johnson is a good coach, but his impact at Bama hasn't been very big just yet.
Two 5*'s in his '017 class.
I really want to keep Frazier! Just off of a two minute tape you can see the great quickness we simply don't have. I like Lucas and Nichols and if this class stays together we will be good in a hurry. The great thing about this class is a good point guard, a good big, talent at the right positions. I can't wait for the day when we have a guy or 2 that can't be stopped and he can just make a play and get a bucket .

Lost to pearl at home last night...
Interesting. Avery Johnson is bringing in the #5 class in 2017. It includes Collin Sexton, the #7 overall player. If Johnson were to come here I imagine that Sexton would stay in the south or head to a blue blood, but maybe he'd follow his coach? Either way, Johnson has been recruiting at an elite level and has a tremendous coaching pedigree. I'd be all in on that hire.
Avery Johnson intrigues. Would be a pretty bad !!! athletics department sell to say we have a super bowl head coach and NBA finals head coach running our revenue programs. Has any school ever had that at the same time?
Home Depot, selling ladders.
Money will have very little to do with whether Archie takes the Illini job.
Okay, and what makes you so sure? We could double his salary right now.. so then it comes down to other competition for him. I get he may prefer another school, but don't tell me that a big enough check wouldn't make him consider it.
As someone else said, kind of harsh. By most accounts Groce is apparently a nice decent guy and I don't think anyone can say that he has not been a great representative for the University. Also, considering how I have often been in precarious job situations I don't like to see people losing their jobs although I don't think he will be unemployed long. I posited the idea that maybe he could be retained as a recruiter. He wouldn't have to move his family etc. Maybe we would keep the recruits. But I know that that is unrealistic due to ego, the fact that a new coach would want his own people and just the weirdness of having a former HC on the bench sitting next to the current HC. But in a perfect world…

Don't see he motivation for either party there. Anything could happen I guess.
I think it's beyond ego and weirdness. The new coach wouldn't want the previous head coach on his staff for a number of reasons. Also, Groce would have to take an enormous pay cut and that kind of bizarre demotion would undoubtedly stunt his professional development. Of all the insane ideas bounced around in this thread (Tim Miles? Tom Crean? Brad Stevens?), keeping Groce on the incoming staff as lead recruiter takes the cake. Absolutely zero chance it would ever happen.
Also a former NFL Coach of the Year and a former NBA Coach of the Year.
Still, what evidence do we have that he's a better college head coach than Cuonzo?
