Just heard Brad Evans on the Tay and Jay podcast discussing Ben Howland as a realistic option. I know he is older, but maybe he could help get the program back to a stable place before retirement. Not to mention, MS State is not a destination spot...

I'd take this over anything else in the field. My guess is that Whitman will support JG all the way to the end, which btw, is part of what makes him a great AD. He wants JG to succeed. He would much rather have JG succeed than the alternative. He will "come to a mutual agreement" if possible, and something else if necessary. Just guesses, admittedly. He will also move very quickly once set in motion, and hopefully he's put himself in a good position to execute. Like any good surgery, once you make the cut, the clock is ticking. I say this as someone who rarely goes into surgery without a plan.

Agree. Surgery always works out best if there is a plan in place before you start. This was one of my criteria when I sought out a surgeon for carpal tunnel endoscopy, my primary concern being the ability to continue to post my words of wisdom on this site after surgery. The operations were successful. The rest is history.

IIRC, we did the same thing with Snacks after Weber was fired before the NIT.We'd have to really walk a fine line letting Walker be head coach
Honest question - where is all the Walker love coming from? The manner Walker is discussed here it sounds like he's our best assistant. Is that true? I'm in no position to argue one way or the other so just asking.
I get the impression that Ford is Groce's mini-me sidekick, and I assumed top assistant. Walker has had some St Louis connections that worked in our favor, and Parham has the Chicago connection that worked in our favor initially with Nunn, but now???
Personally, I think the assistants as a whole are garbage but I really have no insight into is it just one guy that's terrible, are they all terrible?
Would it be smart to keep any of them?
Not sure how much Parham had to do with landing Nunn. He wasn't added to the staff until July, after Isaac Chew ditched us to go to Marquette. He was also supposed to be really tight with Bates-Diop and we didn't land him.
The only reason Walker is mentioned as someone to keep is to hang on to Tilmon and possibly stay in good graces with Liddell and the other StL area kids.

For any persons that haven't abandoned ship yet...it is sinking quickly. Whitman has declined all interviews until after the season, Groce is taking things day to day, "they" haven't really talked much about it (so once they did and the narrative was...hey last chance buddy) so no further talks needed? Just saying this looks like a lot of smoke, and where that is, there is a FIRE!!!

I've seen Groce bristle at any reference to his job security during the pressers. Article makes it seem like he and Whitman are on the same page about avoiding the subject.
Contrast the comments in this article vs those during Weber's demise; night and day. I respect Groce keeping his composure. Too bad that when it comes to the basketball aspects like inbounding the ball, and managing the roster it's been amateur hour.
