Not shocking given what we heard about his thoughts leading up to Mark's announcement.

But he stays. Can't prognosticate a transfer based on wardrobe choice on a day where MSU plays. Can't base a transfer on wardrobe choice period, really.

My honest assessment of the players on the team.

1. Kipper is my least favorite player on this team. He was important this season because no one would score. He isn't afraid to score. Underwood is going to fix that problem ASAP. I am fine if Kipper stays, it just means I will yell at my TV "Get back on D". "Hustle" and I have to watch him not listen to coach at least 2 timeouts per game. I think he would be better off somewhere else, but we would be better off with him.
2. Finke is a senior next year and we don't have a ton of people his height on the team. I think he was a reach to come to ILL in the first place and he lost playing time to Ebo. I think he should move on, I think we would be better if he stayed. In a way, he owes us for him not ending up at Valpo.
3. Black. Please Please Please don't move on.
4. Jordan. His dad reads this message board. Good kid. He will be a SR. I can't find it ever beneficial to have a senior leave for what is left over on the freshman market right now.
5. Tejon Lucas - For the benefit of the team and his career. He should move.
6. Matic - Are you guys serious that he is going to turn into something good? Really. He isn't a typical freshman, he was a FR who looked like he never played ever before. Scared to death. He was more lost than a walk on. Mistake recruit. Move on.
7. Ebo - He will grow into his best player here.
8. Mark Smith - Will score a lot of points here. I hope he sees that.
9. Da'Monte - I am so excited about his career here. He will be great here.
10. Frazier - MVP MVP MVP

We have 11 kids under scholarship. I think 5 leave. Next season will be terrible if that happens, so why not root for every single player to come back. They committed to ILL and we committed to them.

Kipper transferred once already, he'd lose a season of eligibility if he left I believe. So doubtful I'd think

It's interesting that on next year's roster (if not the rumored changes) the following will be products of coach's Sons.

Black
Finke
Smith
Ayo
Griffin

Roy Schmidt tweeting that Mark Smith is transferring and will talk to Whitman tomorrow. Hope it isn't true, but giving me a sick feeling in my stomach.

Man if this is true.....disaster

Leron transferring would be a disaster.

Mark Smith transferring would be a disappointment, and I hope he doesn't, but it also might be understandable. He had a much worse season that Trent and Damonte was better, as well. We all want him to turn into Deron Williams 2.0 but I don't know if that will be in the cards...

Is it the real Schmidt or the parody account? I saw the parody tweet. Would be disappointing if true. I was really looking forward to 3 more years from Smith.

I'll be honest, if Mark is the type of person that transfers because he wasn't good enough to get playing time on a losing team, then he is not the type of player we need to turn this program around. We need fighters, not front runners. I hope he isn't that kind of dude however because he does have ton of potential.

Per Ryan Evan on twitter:

No periscope tonight- but I will say. Illinois will have a different looking team again next season. #illini staff finishing up player meetings tomorrow. The amount of '18 schollies should open your eyes.

Im pretty sure it's right guys. Several sources now saying the same thing. Smith is gone we kinda felt it since January and now it sounds like he is going to be a Panther and I will leave it at that.

I assume Eastern Illinois. Some other options - Northern Iowa; Pitt; Middlebury College. Methinks it's not Middlebury College.

I'm still not seeing any other real sources saying it. For the record, I find the rumor to be believable, but I don't yet trust the source.

If Smith is out, this is likely going to be a more tumoltuous off season then I first though. It seems to me that the limited amount of talent that is left in the 18 class really pigeon holes this staff in what they can do. Hopefully they don’t completely flub this.

Mark needs to watch the scene in Cool Runnings where the one bobsleeder stands up to his Dad in the hotel.

Would certainly explain why staff has been pressing hard on Ramey.
