Would certainly explain why staff has been pressing hard on Ramey.

Yes, but players of his caliber want to come to programs that are stable and have a plethora of talent. The rumblings are suggesting otherwise for the beloved next year. Ramey ain’t happening.

I’m starting to think that Dan might be running the Donut Bros Twitter account. Who else would know that posting something like that would light this site up on a Sunday night. #Marketing

If Mark had gone to Kentucky or Michigan State, he would have been even more buried. Why wouldn't he want to face the competition and earn his spot?

I was in Edwardsville yesterday, ran across Mark Smith. His dad, or adult he was with was decked out in MSU gear. Doesn't mean anything necessarily but worth speculation

Okay, confession time.

When I first read this, I thought "Cuonzo Martin in disguise", but didn't want to post and joke about it since I've become so snake-bitten as an Illini fan.

Now, a little more than 12 hours later, we've been snake-bitten in any event. The lesson here is to never pass up an opportunity to make a joke on an internet board.

The events of the past few hours have me longing for the good ol' days of Illinois Loyalty, where we could watch old timers debate on the athleticism of prospective University of Illinois recruits like Larry Bird. . .

The first year is typically difficult. Just ask Meyers Leonard, Brandon Paul, etc etc. If the rumors are true, i hope Mark Smith can see past his frustrations and trust the process...

Going to get sizzled here but I have thought from early on that BU wants to run a system similar to the UConn women (love to hear the coaches opinion on this). They switch on every screen and are mostly interchangeable. Their defense depends on quickness and anticipation. Most of them can shoot the 3 pointer and all of them can handle the ball.

MS was in a bad position because he doesn't have the quickness nor the experience to anticipate. I believe he can become a Bohannon type player as he can shoot and score but will never be a great defensive player under BU's system. I also believe our defensive problems in the post were fatal as we had neither the size nor the quickness to defend (include Black as not quick enough). A poster has said that Ayo is quicker than TeJon. I doubt this but hope it is true because it will help our defense. DaMonte has the length and basket ball savy to play defense immediately. He moves so smoothly and anticipates that he is rarely in the wrong position. Kipper is a mystery to me as everyone said last year that he had a great motor. Think he has the quickness but maybe not the anticipation.

Still think we are one quick big from being competitive. Would love to have Kane as he looks much better to me but not an expert opinion.

Is there any anticipation that Tyler Underwood will be of any impact, I remember early on in the season they talked about how impressive he was in practice. Took that with a grain of salt with BU obviously going to talk good about his kid, but kept some hope that maybe he ends up contributing somewhat.

Maybe everybody was supposed to clean their locker and only 5 completed the task.

Well, Alstork and Clayton Jones are both seniors. Cameron Liss is an academic senior (but redshirt junior), so who knows what his plans are.

I remember thinking to myself how brutal Ohio St. was going to be when they essentially had a whole class of top 100 kids transfer out or move out in one way or another a year or so ago. Looks like I was spot on with how that turned out.

Perhaps I will be able to see the current situation at Illinois through this lens...on second thought, probably not :)

I've thought from the beginning, a squad of 12 guys, even with slightly lesser talent could compete and be a bubble team IF they ran BUs system how it should be run. We didn't run the system fully this season.

With most of the squad back on paper, I hoped everyone could grasp the system being in it for a year, and take the next step.

My fear is now, that with possibly having to work in 4-5 new players, the BU system doesn't run fully do to so many new guys on the roster. Just puts us back into the "just wait till Groce gets his PG and then this will really take off" cycle again.

Either way, I'll be ready for basketball season come November hoping everything comes up Milhouse for the Illini.
