For what it's worth, the Memphis Redbirds have started their season 8-1, the best opening in franchise history.

Tyler O'Neil is the real deal. If any of the starting 3 OF go down for an extended period (which Fowler and Pham tend to do), look for him to come up and hit some moon shots.

Braving the cold and heading to the game tonight at Wrigley (was supposed to go last night, they could've played). I've never seen us win at Wrigley, so let's hope that steak ends tonight!

Holland:frustrated:

Wow!! What in the world was that!? He needs to get right and fast. He almost cost us the game (again). I think he’ll get better but if he cant even string a few good pitches together (and stop walking everyone), I’m not sure we can use him in these games. Maybe in blowouts but otherwise, it’s hard to trust him.

Holland needs to be back in the minors. He missed all of spring training. He's not gonna be up to speed in just a couple weeks. Also, he wasn't all that great to begin with, so it's not gonna be pretty until he gets up to speed.

The way Memphis is playing, they may not want him! :thumb:

The hope I have with Holland the little bit I’ve seen is he is missing mostly down. Which I think is preferable and an easier fix than missing up.

Cardinals set to call up slugger Tyler O'Neill prior to tomorrow's game though it's not known who will get sent down. O'Neill, who came to the Cardinals in exchange for Marco Gonzales last July, currently has a slash line of .382/.385/.837 with a 1.221 OPS. He has hit 6 HRs with 18 RBIs thus far this season at Memphis.

Maybe they let Fowler stay in Chicago and become their lead off hitter.

More importantly, he makes Aaron Judge look like a tiny armed little baby

Apparently reliever John Brebbia is being sent down:

Incidentally, O'Neill is power-packed, but he's "only" 5'11", whereas Judge is 6'7".

9-2 Cardinals, top of the 9th. Hope a 7 run lead is enough for Holland!

Whew, that was a pretty uneventful 9th, thank goodness. He needs more of those just to boost his confidence. I actually thought his stuff today looked serviceable.

Yeah. Though that caught looking K of Gennett was questionable. But I can see why the ump would do it given the score and the steady rain coming down.

Shame we won't see the Reds again until the second weekend in June.

7 of the 13 wins against the Reds, but those are the games you have to have. Overall, pretty happy with what is going on. Wong and Carp need to get going. How about Yadi? He is unbelievable!

When's the time to start cutting Carp's playing time? He just is not looking comfortable at all. We need to get Gyorko in there more. Wong is strugggling too so we at least need one of them to start producing.

Meh he'll be alright. Still getting on base, striking out a little bit more than usual but that's probably just small sample size. Still hitting line drives and not just rolling over on the ball, so his .212 BABIP is incredibly low and will definitely rise back to around .300 and the rest of his stats will improve with it.

He probably shouldn't be batting leadoff anymore, but he's still one of the top 4 hitters on the team so it's not that big of a deal.

With that said, there's still a way to get Gyroko 500 or so plate attempts without drastically reducing anyone's playing time. Gyroko should start every game against a lefty, spelling either Wong or Carpenter. And he should start once a week in place of Martinez with Carpenter at 1st.

Yes please. We have better options available. Almost everyone is better at this point. He needs several outings of getting people out before he is put in an important situation again. And the leash has to be shorter.

Cards sweep the 2-game series against the White Sox, 3-2 and 3-2. And for what it's worth, the National League is now 22-12 against the AL in inter-league games.
