2020-21 Illini Men's Golf

Would love something like a 10-stroke lead (currently it's 9) over the 9th place team heading into Monday.

And if we're then allowed to get picky, I'd like to finish 3rd thru 6th to avoid the two Oklahoma schools on Day 1 of match play. I guess we could also jump Oklahoma for 2nd and accomplish the same task.
Oklahoma's best player just doubled the 520 par 4 18th and we are only 3 back so making a run at them today will make things easier tomorrow. OSU is running away with this. I would like a 2nd or 3rd place to avoid OSU until the finals.

i spoke too soon, they are leaking a bit down the stretch here

Looks like top 15 cut line will go to around +29 if I were a betting man. Still think around +20 is the line for match play after tomorrow’s final stroke play round. Illini gave a few back at the end but still in great shape.

We are 10 clear of the cut line for the top 8 and other than FSU and OSU, playing lights out, we played solid. We play another under par round tomorrow and we will be in the final 8. Not many low scores there so pars are good and birdies are premium. Keep away from the doubles and we will be fine.

at this rate if play under par we will be 2 or 3. We are one of two teams that have been under par for each of these two middle rounds. Playing extraordinarily well. This course has its teeth out.

Keep in mind everyone plays in the afternoon tomorrow so scoring will be more difficult for everyone. Not to mention the TV cameras and pressure of the final stroke play round.
I would give any team playing this afternoon about a 0% chance of making match play. Huge advantage for the teams that earned an early tee time today.

I would give Texas a 5-10% chance, just because they're Texas and they dominated their regional. But they will need to go low either today or tomorrow (or both), because they have a lot of strokes to make up

For some reason Texas sat down their #1 man after round 1. Not sure if from injury or poor play. Georgia would be the only one that might have a chance in my opinion.

Yes it does. It’s brutal. I think that Small has them locked in which he is good at.

I didn't know about Texas' #1 player being out. That explains a lot. In light of that, I think Texas is toast.

And I agree that Georgia would seem to have the best shot of advancing to match play from today's afternoon group

Florida is a pretty fair bet to make it to Monday also I think. Texas is done, imo. Have to make up 6 strokes on a day when they are +8. Not happening

It looks like it's very likely that only one team from the afternoon group makes it to Monday. And the odds of that team advancing to match play are very slim

Georgia's last player had one hole left and just needed a par to get in at +31, which might have gotten them the last spot and would have put them ahead of Georgia Tech who finished the early session at +32. Double bogey. So Georgia's done. Florida is at +31 now, but has several holes left.

Agreed. You've still got a very good chance of hitting the number exactly. Good call even if things diverge tomorrow. The Illini sure are playing well, which is great to follow.

Looks like he shot +9 on the first day which was their worst score.

So TCU made three birdies on the last hole, including an 18-foot putt by their last golfer to tie Georgia Tech for the 15th spot - then ended up losing the playoff this morning anyway. That means that none of the teams in yesterday's afternoon wave made the cut. TCU would have had to make up 19 shots today to make match play, which would seem highly unlikely

It's almost time to rock and roll. Odds are certainly in our favor to keep playing on Tuesday.

Clemson and Pepperdine with the best chances to move into the Top 8 (Match Play).
