Wasn't Texas Tech pretty much the worst job among the Texas Power 5 schools at this point anyway? I mean, it can't be easy to recruit to a town like Lubbock.
I mean it's a fine job as far as it goes, but they're now kinda-sorta not a P5 school anymore.

It appears recruiting's been pretty bad, but I dunno man.

Probably a very cranky fanbase now that Kliff Kingsbury appears to be off to the races in the NFL.

If I am Traylor I tell TTU: Thanks, but no thanks! That guy is cut out for bigger things than TTU.
I was in Lubbock once. Ugh. The most accurate description of the place that I later heard is "all they have there are miles and miles of miles and miles".

My ex father in law grew up in Lubbock on a cotton farm ....he told me he hated it and couldn't wait to move to odessa-midland area when he was young....

What the heck did he do wrong?
they have a winning record and his offense is not exactly Air Raid so he finally got players in that fit his scheme. I'd like to hear more of why TTU fired Wells. I hope TTU realizes that they are not going to win the Big 12 overnight especially with Oklahoma, Baylor, and ISU in the conference for the next few years. They definitely do not have as much money as Texas, Oklahoma and Baylor for recruiting and facilities. All of this needs to be given time which I don't believe many of these Power 5 Teams are allowing their coaches.

Also being rumored are Sonny dikes and, wait for it… Art Briles

Sonny is really building something at SMU. While I know there are family ties at Tech I don’t think I go anywhere near that job if I am him. It’s really more of a lateral move at this point – particularly with Oklahoma and Texas leaving the Big 12. While the big 12 isn’t G5, it really isn’t P5 either without OU or TX. He will have true Power 5 offers in the next few years.

There are influential boosters at Tech that would love to have Briles - morally bankrupt folks if you ask me. However, no one who at this point is in a position to make a higher.

Tech would be the school to try and resurrect that a-holes career.

Two bits of coaching news coming out of the state of Texas (one of which has already been mentioned on here):

-UTSA has signed head coach Jeff Traylor to an extension through 2031 that will have an annual average salary of $2.8 million.
-TCU and head coach Gary Patterson have agreed to part ways effective immediately. Former SIU, NIU, and Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill has been named the interim head coach of the Horned Frogs.

Patterson spent 20 full seasons in charge in Fort Worth, with 10 11-win seasons, the 4th most in college football since 2001. TCU is 3-5 this season, 1-4 in the Big XII and only really has 1 game left on their schedule that they would be favored to win.

Gary Patterson out at TCU, which is really unbelievable. Turned a small conference doormat into a National power, completed revitalized the entire athletic department, raised the profile of the university … you’d think they would at least let him finish the season before showing him the gate. Wow.

ESPN "In meeting with the longtime coach Sunday, school officials asked Patterson to finish this season, but he declined."
