2021-22 College Hoops Coaching Carousel

When Underwood signed his last extension, I'm sure Whitman brought up the subject of whether Underwood was interested in the KSU job when it came open. I've not heard that Underwood requested an "out" if KSU offered.

A spring chicken BU is not. I get the impression that one of his personal life/career goals is to go to the final four and win a national championship. Leaving Illinois to start another rebuild or establishing his culture somewhere else gets him further away from that goal.
It's even simpler, Weber just recently had to take a pay decrease to help the university out. He was making $2.8 M at peak. Underwood is now making over $4 M. They simply can't afford Weber's parachute, Underwood's buyout, and his new salary. They'd have to pay him $5 M or more to get him, which would make him potentially a top 5 highest paid coach in the nation.

That's not going to happen. Don't waste your concern on this.

Is anyone really worried about this? It seems like almost everyone of us is arguing he’s not leaving and they are all …

Why would this come up? I cannot imagine they discussed that.

You must be a mind reader.
If I were a mind reader this board would be a pretty quick read. (Just kidding, guys).

But I don't think all coaches set that expectation upon themselves. What's more is that I don't think all coaches actually believe they can achieve that goal even if they do say it publicly. However, I think BU does. And for me, even more than the $$$, that's why I think he's at Illinois until he hangs it up for good.

CBS article mentions BU as possible replacement at LSU.
Also says doubtful
"he quickly left the Cowboys after one season for a bigger salary and a promise of a larger commitment to the basketball program. LSU could likely offer both. "

Maybe $$...maybe, but in what world is LSU able to offer a bigger commitment to it's basketball program???

I didn't read the article, but would guess their football revenue is somewhat larger. LSU gets the instate recruits it generally wants, and is next door to Texas which produces twice as many top 100 RSCI players as Illinois. Underwood knows all about Illinois and his opportunities here. He isn't leaving this for that yet.

Kansas is draconian about cannabis. Bad place to get caught with a bag.
When KU had the FBI investigation into their ticket scandal several years ago, there was evidence gathered about a relationship between a known dealer and several KU basketball players. The FBI never pursued that, because it was not their interest. He was a friend, there were a lot of phone calls and visits to his residence by KU players according to the articles I read. Depends on who you are sometimes.

And another one on ESPN that I must quote for the sheer absurdity:

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...tice-allegations-firing-basketball-coach-wade

The industry belief, considering athletic director Scott Woodward's history, is that he'll aim for a big name. His three football hires as an athletic director -- Chris Petersen at Washington, Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M and Brian Kelly at LSU -- show that he covets proven winners. He also hired Buzz Williams in basketball at A&M and Kim Mulkey for women's basketball at LSU.

Think the archetype of a proven winner such as Kelvin Sampson (Houston), Dana Altman (Oregon), A&M's Williams, Chris Holtmann (Ohio State) or Brad Underwood (Illinois).

But any of those hires would require a heavy financial commitment, creativity and protection for the candidate, perhaps with guaranteed years added for every year of probation.

Why would ANY of those candidates want to get involved in that dumpster fire right now? The baseless speculation from ESPN has no limits.

IIRC that GIF's from Bowfinger. Kit Ramey's state of mind in that film was consistently... paranoid.
That meme is from a web series, but Bowfinger is awesome. One of the first things I remember that made fun of/called out Scientology and its connection to Hollywood.

Wow this is odd
That's a really weird one. And Florida has a very good 2022 class coming in too. I wonder if White was about to get canned, because this seems like a pretty big step down for him.

And for Georgia, you'd think they'd take a chance on an up-and-comer rather than a coach from the same conference, coming off a mediocre season.
