Kevin O'Connor (Ringer) has him going at #30 to the Jazz too, even though he has Ayo at #25 on his big board. I'm honestly not surprised by the drop. Upside always draws GMs back in the further away from the season it gets. Seems the only college-proven guys that rise late (at least in mock drafts) are the ones that show out in the NCAA tourney, like your Davion Mitchells.
Good point. I wouldn't be surprised if that loss to Loyola lost both Ayo and Kofi some significant $$$ (as a result of lost opportunity to showcase their talents, I'm not saying NBA GM's are putting a bunch of weight on that one loss).

Dang, that's impressive. About the only thing you can nitpick with Kofi is the agility -- everything else is freakish for a guy of that size. Would love to see how many bench reps he's able to do. Also, I need to offer a mea culpa: I was convinced his wingspan number was exaggerated and would impact his draft stock, but clearly it wasn't. That's huge for him.

EJ at only 6'5" in shoes was a bit surprising. Still, I don't see why he isn't in the second round conversation. With NBA training he seems like he could easily be a Jae Crowder-type, and we're seeing for the second year straight why having that kind of guy on your team is huge. I'd rather have EJ at pick #45-50 than Franz at pick #10, that's for sure.
Agree on EJ. I would certainly take a flyer on him in the second round. He certainly has the will to rebound and plays bigger than he is. And he really seemed to have found his 3 pt shot the second half of the year so I’m optimistic he could develop into a solid if unspectacular 3 pt shooter at the next level. To me he’s a pretty ideal small ball 4.

New mock draft from the Athletic has Ayo going #30 to Utah and Kofi not drafted. Other Big 10 players are Franz Wagner at #10, Aaron Henry #44, Luka Garza #46, and Joe Wieskamp #53.

Don't know why Ayo's stock seems to have dropped to the point where he's barely in the first round in this one. As I recall, the Athletic had him going higher earlier in the process and have had him slipping in pretty much every subsequent mock draft. The article notes concerns about the mechanics of his jump shot, but that's not really new information. Scouts have known about that since he was in high school.

On a more positive note, this USA Today mock draft from yesterday has him going #18 to OKC and compares him to John Wall and Russell Westbrook, so let's just go with that one: https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/s...lts-up-no-2-spot-mock-draft-board/7768161002/
As much as I hate to say it I think the Loyola game really hurt his stock. They pretty much neutralized him.

Kofi is 297 pounds with 7% body fat. Talk about ridiculousness. Even more for fletch to sell.

We already knew about the agility issues so not a surprise he was the slowest (if I read that correctly). But a damn good 3/4 court sprint.

final interesting thing is he has a 30 inch vert and a 33 inch max vert. With his straight line speed it’s kinda interesting he can’t convert more of that for a better increase on his max.

Noticed the very small gain from standing vert to running vert (I think thats what those measurements are at least). Odd, but not sure how much it matters practically, given his play style as well as his height and wingspan (both very big!).

I've noticed that Kofi often jumps off two feet even when he's been sprinting down the court on a fast break. Perhaps it's his agility limitations or maybe it's just what your body has to do when you're that enormous and have that much momentum, but he almost does a little half pro hop into his jumps after running, whereas most guys just go smoothly into a one-footed jump. Have to think that plays a role in the minor difference between the two verticals, since he loses some of the momentum benefits one would typically get with a running start.

You can still transition that momentum to a 2 footed jump. It’s possible the hop you’re talking about is hindering his transition. Every 2 foot jumper I’ve seen is a 1-2 step guy.

top 60 draft predictions

Garza, Wagner and Livers.. gone.. Terrance Shannon as well.

Ayo to Clippers..
I admit I'm not an NBA exec or even watch a lot of games, but that list has players mockingly being picked ahead of Ayo that doesn't make sense to me...

How can you have that much vitriol for a team that has never won anything in their history?
I guess there’s some recency bias there. Didn’t appreciate some of the arrogance their team showed after adding PG+Kawhi, especially before they ever took the court together. Lob City was a fun time, I’ll give them that

That's the NBA, and why none of it's fun.

This is the NBA, where Marvin Williams was drafted ahead of D-Will and Chris Paul without starting a single NCAA game.

I was addicted to the NBA wayyyyyyyyyyy back when Oscar Robertson , Elgin Baylor, the Celtics dynasty teams through to Bird, Magic etc.....
Not a fan now as team play has been replaced with 3pters and no D........
