Bears have traded 4 1st rounders(plus other picks) to get one QB in last 5 years. (Since they got nothing for Trubisky.) Hope this one works out. By the way, props to Greenie for mentioning the Decatur Staleys.

Denver doesn't take a QB. Do they really think Teddy Bridgewater is the man. Don't seem that they have any faith in Drew Lock. (Hoping for Aaron R?)

Etienne to Jacksonville.

Patriots do absolutely nothing and have Mac Jones fall to them.

yup
Pace needs to win 9 games this year or he & Nagy will be gone .
He loves trading away future picks .
I’m indifferent on the pick . hope i’m wrong
I still think Pace has been told he has more job security than that.

I amazes me that 7 or 8 first round picks are those who opted out of this past college football season. We cannot know at this point whether NFL teams are bozos, or if year old game film is really all they need.

I don’t know much about football talent evaluation.

Is Justin Fields supposed to be day 1 ready?

Or is he, we’ll have to have a qb comp to see?

Or is he, probably needs a year to adapt but then the keys are his?

Discord w/Rodgers and GB, Pace actually makes a great move? What the heck is happening?

The plan is to ease him in. Having Dalton start, for now, is 100% the right move. Mahomes wasn't a starter his rookie year.

ARod is pissed off the Packers never give him help in the 1st round. He lets the world know this. He threatens to not return to the team. Smart money would think that maybe, just maybe, the Packers would give him some help. NOPE, they go defense AGAIN.

It is all together plausible that the Bears go into the 2022 season with the best QB in the NFC North.

Thoughts after Day 1?
First of all, IFiHL, thank you for your hard work in keeping this list updated. I appreciate your hard work. I followed it all night. Secondly, I’m optimistic about Fields although reading some comments out there that his attitude makes Cutler’s look good. o_O Thirdly, the Packers sure made it obvious THEY are in control by picking another defensive guy, Rodgers isn’t, and they will do whatever they want, even if it doesn’t help AR want to stay. Finally, a lot of B1G players went in the first round, which is great for the conference.

I’m ambivalent about the Bears trading up to take Fields.

I think Fields is a great talent and has a chance to be a good player. I like him coming out of college better than any other Bears qb pick in my living memory (Harbaugh, McNown, Grossman, Trubisky).

I don’t think the Bears are a good situation for him to reach his potential. They have all sorts of incentive to play him before he’s ready. They have a bad track record of developing qbs. They have a bad line and limited offensive weapons for a young qb. They don’t have many resources in draft picks or cap room to make any improvements to the roster this year or next.

This has all the makings of a GM and HC desperate to keep their jobs, a franchise desperate to excite its fans, and a young qb given expectations he can’t possibly fulfill on a timeline that would satisfy any of the above.

It looks to me like Fields is being set up to fail. I really hope I’m wrong.

ETA - another way of saying this is that if the Bears had canned Pace and Nagy and the new GM had made this pick, I would have been 100% on board because I would have trusted the GM and new coach to make decisions best for the long term future of the franchise. I don’t trust Pace and Nagy to do that.

Sadly, I very much agree with you.

This is so much better put together than my post last night, but hits exactly why I'm cautious (at best) about celebrating this pick. Thank you.

The Bears have made the playoffs 2 out of Nagy's three years despite him, apparently, being terrible at his job. While Mitchell might have been Pace's guy, he was not Nagy's. Nagy was busy coaching up Pat Mahomes during Mitchell's 1st year.
If they can upgrade the O-line today, they may not be in as bad a shape as many fear. Allen Robinson is still a #1 WR. Montgomery showed signs toward the end of last season of being a good RB. Getting Cohen healthy can only help. I'm still optimistic that Cole Kmet can become a good TE. (It almost always takes TE's a year to contribute in a meaningful way.)
We still have a LOT of talent on defense.

There was a guy on the radio today that said the Bears might be the worst team in all of football next year. I'm not quite sure where he got that from. I know the Bears aren't a Superbowl contender right now but the worst team in the NFL? I was annoyed listening to him.

Plus, Darnell Mooney showed the makings of a very solid WR in his rookie season. I'm looking for good things from him in the future.

I don’t think they’ll be the worst team in football, but there’s a very good chance that they’ll be worse than they were last year at several key positions and not improved at any single position including QB.

There’s a very real possibility of them being a 5 or 6 win team without an upcoming first round draft pick next year.

The Bears won't even be the worst team in the division. I'd be surprised if the Lions won 5 or 6 games next season.
