Thanks for the responses. I do understand about the class structure (top 32, next 32, etc) as well as the huge growth in places like Huntley.

The 8-man football idea was new to me, though you seem to discount that.

Anyway just seemed odd to me that CG was for many years on the 6A / 7A border and now dropped all the way to 5A. But maybe it was a combination of all the above.

It’s the 8a championship. Sucks East had injuries and dropped their last two games, was hoping to see these two meet in the final.

Hope the game is in Frankfort so I can see it without driving to Hyde Park.

You also have private schools with huge drops in enrollment,

Same thing will happen in the 7a bracket. DGN vs BR will be the championship game. The best games are rarely in the championship games because of the seedings. It’ll never happen but we need a reduction of teams in the playoff. We can start by taking less Chicago public league teams.

Yeah, going to 8 classes should only have 16 teams.

How do you suggest doing that when teams have the wins and playoff points to get in?

When it was 6 classes team were playing against schools 3 times there size. That is not the answer either. Change how you seed and everything will be fine. Don't seed only on record. Also, the money for travel is an issue because you have to group teams geographically to an extent otherwise a team from St. Louis area may have to travel to the Chicago area multiple times in 1 playoff.

To be honest, there are plenty of suburban teams that get in that are not good. Look at the Upstate 8 and West Suburban Gold. Every year 3-5 teams from those conferences qualify and get blown out unless they play each other other or a CPS team.

The west suburban gold is horrible but they only had 2 teams qualify. The cps has a lot of teams in the playoffs. Look at the 5a bracket st Francis basically has a bye this week
