Gotta give a shout out to my hometown...

48-7 MC, they have a college team. Could have been worse, LWE has I think maybe five D1 players at least and MC made them look tiny.

There needs to be a separate division for private schools. I never thought I’d say that.

Why because your team got scraped? LWE needs to play a tougher schedule. They weren’t ready for this game and Mt Carmel took it to them.

Who do you suggest they play? They went on the road against Maine South and then played Kankakee. Both are considered very strong programs. The rest of their games were in conference. Lockport, HF, Sandburg and the Naperville schools.

Propose how a public school can play a tougher schedule? MC recruits kids from everywhere and has travel budgets, public schools have boundaries and fixed budgets with no donors to help with travel.

I grew up on the south side and went to Bother Rice, it blew away Evergreen Park academically and athletically. Every decent athlete from the area went to Rice, St Rita, MC, or Marist. I’m a huge private school advocate, but I think they should do their own thing due to the advantages.

Athletic scholarships are given, the education MC can give vs all the area public schools is like UIUC vs ISU, public schools can’t compete against that.

I know East St Louis has tried to played LWE the last several years. I would try to get a game with a ccl team. Maine South is a solid program but they aren’t the program they used to be. Kankakee is a solid 6a team.

What are you talking about? They play their conference schedule. Do you want them to pick up the school and move it.....where? These aren't programs putting money games together.

Regardless of LWE winning or losing, the bigger question is should the schools(Catholic Schools) that can legally recruit from any area be in the same tournament field as public schools that are restricted by boundaries, with their programs fully reliant on feeder programs, suburban affluence, taxes going to the schools and community participation.

The playing field isn't level.

It's a talent issue, not a scheduling/development issue. Mt. Carmel has 2nd stringers that are going to be high D1 players in two years. Same with their three deep.

It's a common sense issue, but there's no good solution. If you break it up, you'll really never have a true state championship and if you don't, the teams that are allowed to cherry pick will continually take the trophy home.

most private schools aren’t doing this. ICCP just lost to Byron. Mt Carmel is on another level right now. Just like everyone else their run will come to an end eventually

The game today might’ve been the least competitive playoff game Mt Carmel has played in the last 2 years. That says more about LWE than it does Mt Carmel.
Why is it fine for LWE to curb stomp Stevenson 49-0 but the second they lose the rules need to change

Still going to end up with private champs at 8A, 7A, 5A, 4A. ESL is like the only public champ in any of the top 5 classes. And the team they beat, either Fenwick or Naz, likely beats a lot of those public schools in 8A & 7A if not all of them.

I agree with you that this isn't about LWE. Forget about them getting waxed. It doesn't matter who MC plays. That class tournament is over and it was over after they beat Loyola.

These rules have been an issue for a LONG time. I just don't see a way that fix it.

Oswego got Maine South today. They have been knocking at the door the past few years. Will more than likely keep knocking, but they seem to be a growing town and a growing player in 8a.

1-3a - will be public champions.
4a - Montini still seems to be the heavy favorite🤞, but Morris can play any style and Rochester wins big games.
5a - will be catholic
6A - I think we know who the favorite is. Let's see what Naz can do if they
7a - I still have catholic to BR. I hope DGN can clip them.
8a - If I was a betting man, I think I know who I bet the house on. MC sent a message today, let's see if they get caught sleepwalking.

8a is already over
7a BR will most likely see Batavia in the finals. In 2023 Batavia beat BR 47-0.
5a I think Franny wins but they usually find a way to lose in the playoffs
4a- Montini will still have to play Rochester which won’t be an easy game.

Next year Brother Rice will be back in 8a which will make 7a wide open

East 100% was outcoached and outplayed, MC is good but not that good.

That said, having private schools (outside of ESL and the tiny classes) win 90% of the championships is an issue if you like competitive games.

But it’s kind of the same thing in college sports, the B1G and SEC have a huge advantage over others.

Not great for ratings over time, unless they break away and do own thing since teams from other leagues have no real shot at winning (outside of ND and maybe TTech).

Maybe I’m an advocate of a super league - could be great or could ruin everything.

Not many 1-3a non-boundary teams that were especially good this year. IC being the lone exception.

2a - Sterling Newman just has too little of an area to draw from and Sterling High gets their fair share of talent. The Sterling High football complex is fantastic.

3a - RB may hang with Byron for a bit. A traditionally very good team in 4a gets dropped to 3a. I think it will be a better game than most people expect.

4a - Morris and Rochester will be moderate speed bumps. Rochester is good but not like some of their past top teams.

5a-8a - ESL or bust for the publics. Although I guess if Belvidere beat CG, maybe they can hang?

I’m a fan of Z but I think in a lot of these games he gets out coached.

ESL wants to play up but their conference will only let them play up 1 level. The ihsa rule where private schools lose their multiplier if they if they don’t have a playoff win over a couple years was stupid. To make a bad rule worse they counted the Covid year when no one played. That rule is what BR is in 7a this year

DGN and Batavia are solid tough teams in 7a. I don’t see those being blowouts
