Still going to end up with private champs at 8A, 7A, 5A, 4A. ESL is like the only public champ in any of the top 5 classes. And the team they beat, either Fenwick or Naz, likely beats a lot of those public schools in 8A & 7A if not all of them.

Have you seen Fenwick or Naz play? I have and i definitely don’t think either would beat all the public’s in 7a and 8a. Last year Fenwick had more talent and lost to DGN in the playoffs. Naz got lucky to come back and beat Lake Zurich.

Fenwick lost 38-24 to Carmel. A team that lost in the 2nd round to st Charles north. Let’s not get carried away and say they would beat all 7a and 8a public’s.

Weather played a pretty big part in that Carmel loss last week. One of the teams most impacted by it. Naz has won 7A before. St Francis, Fenwick, Naz, Montini etc… are all loaded with kids from 7A/8A public school districts. They could all hang with this year’s publics in those classes. Not a vintage year for the public schools in 7A/8A by any means and MC/BR are very strong.

Yeah naz won 7a in 2018 with JJ as their qb. What does that have to do with their team in 2025.

Honestly have you seen all of these private schools you keep listing. Last year Fenwick had Nate Marshall and Jack Paris. They got bounced in the 2nd round.

iccp is in a 8a school district in elmhurst. They lost to a 3a team today.

For your pregame/second screen
I know the Camp Point fanbase is really hurting watching this one. I'm not sure how often it is for a playoff team to face multiple teams in the playoffs that were on their regular season schedule, but what a season it would be if the Hornets knock of Camp Point, Carrollton and Calhoun in the post season after dropping two of three in the regular season. All for small school Midwest central Illinois football!

The 1A north bracket is normally the Northwest Upstate Illini invitational in the early rounds.
Sent it to a friend group chat and one said more common for 1A to meet in the post season. I just couldn't believe three of the four games are against teams on Brown County's regular season schedule. I did hear that Casey-Westfield was down one of their best players against Calhoun. That definitely makes a major difference especially in the small school brackets, lol.

Brown County
Wilmington
Maroa-Forsyth
Tolono Unity
Rochester
I agree with your opinion, but I will add in more

BC v Calhoun- This is going to be tough. From a BC view, Calhoun is Sagat from the Street Fighter II games and if you know any those games you will still have trauma from hearing Tiger Fire and Tiger Uppercut. BTW Le-Win is M Bison and Stockton is Akuma.

EP-G vs Wilmington- Only hear their radio broadcasts but Wilmington sounds a public school kaiju, maybe a Byron level Kaiju.

Maroa-Forsyth v ALAH- Maroa-Forsyth did not seem like vintage Maroa-Forsyth, but they are still playing Noember Maroa-Forsyth

I am not knowledgeable enough the other teams but picking against Rochester is a fool's errand.

In 1A the only teams to eliminate WIVC teams have been other WIVC teams and the only teams to eliminate NUIC 1A teams have been other 1A NUIC teams. Heck for BC it is almost as weird facing two other green teams in the playoffs.

Agreed. Rochester's only loss was to Chatham Glenwood, a 6A team, in double overtime, and Rochester was dominating CG until Rochester threw an interception in the fourth qtr. They took down SHG in OT tonight. The likely Montini/Rochester finale should be great Friday evening entertainment.

Morris has to beat Montini

I remember when everyone thought Rita would destroy Rochester in 5a. How did that work out. Rochester has 1 loss on the year and it’s an overtime loss to Chatam Glenwood. They might not beat Montini but I’m sure it will be a good game

The real state championship game would be a fictional one. ESL vs Mt Carmel. But the IHSA playoffs are great fun.

The problem is the best games are played before the championship game
I will give California’s CIL a bit a credit, they have an Open Championship game where a committee could do an equivalent of East St Louis vs Mt Carmel title game. I would not endorse the CIL system though.

Byron beat ICCP by 20.

ICCP beat 5a St Francis by 7.

ICCP lost to Naz by 3 who is in the top 10 overall.

I guess Byron would be one of the top teams in 8a since Franny and Naz would run the table against the public’s

Also St Francis only beat Praire Ridge by 3 and Morgan park by 7. Maybe the private schools aren’t as good as you think. It’s just that LWE is over rated

EP-G will beat Wilmington this week.......

The Rochester-SHG game was really a fun, entertaining game played at a high level for high school football. Montini is the clear favorite to win 4A…but stranger things have happened.
Rochester’s best teams are the next two years as the sophomore class might be one of their best ever…and next year’s incoming freshman class also is loaded.
Interestingly enough, this year’s senior class won just 1 game as freshmen. The player development has been pretty good at Rochester.

Wilmington by 28 or more. EP-G is a good team, a good RB, but they aren't touching Wilmington. They haven't seen anything like it.
There’s always a chance….
