2026 NBA Draft Thread

you might be right. Perhaps Morez's stock is this high. For me, I would pick Yaxel before Morez.
Yaxel's pre draft workouts / interviews / Intel from previous stops wasn't near as strong as Morez.

Going into the day, the thought was Mara / Morez / Yaxel in terms of highest to lowest draft stock. It ended up being Morez / Yaxel / Mara.

I do think Morez's stock was higher than most people here think.

I tend to agree but in the world of wemby I'm curious if mara isn't the best choice. he can pass and defend and is 7'3. put him next to AD and that's a killer front court defense.... if you think mara can translate

I believe the thinking is it’s hard to out tall Wemby but you can throw some strong 6”9 dude at him to throw him off his base and just wear him down

Keaton is just such a baby, physically

Really gave Bambi vibes all season while still putting together a historic season for a freshman

If anyone needs me I will be over here riding my hot take that once the physical part happens he's going to be one of the best players in the world

Wonder if the Lively experience in Dallas is coming to an end.

In 2026, I don't think you can roll out a Lively, Morez, and Flagg 3-5 shooting lineup. But on the other hand, consider me quite skeptical Morez at 6'9" can be a true defensive anchor 5 man in the NBA if Dallas moves on from Lively/Gafford.

Candidly, I'm shocked. I'd think you want to give Flagg as much spacing as possible. But maybe May just loves the player and roll the dice it works out some way

you are right. I would have picked Mara, too. But end of the day, Wemby is a beast and Morez is not KAT. It's hard to say which front court player is a better Wemby stopper.

In the NBA, Morez is a 4.

I have to say Keaton looks better dressed than a lot of these guys, classier.

Morez to Dallas at 9?

I see a guy taking a weird and rather unnecessary leap, and now there's this even more weird storyline where this player who did an awkward stare-down thing in post game interviews behind him is taken with their #9 pick when he was thought of as late teens guys from what I saw.

Earlier today (maybe yesterday) I'd made a comment that it would be so fun to watch Dallas do something wild to draft Morez or Mara... I think 9 was too high here, but we will see...

Worst case scenario we just get more psycho post game stare-downs to laugh at, but best case scenario is you have a coach who is bringing a rookie into an NBA locker room with 'watch how Morez does it and learn' type of energy which I'm not sure how well that will land with 12, 13 other adult males.

9 is high for me too but not by much, I really don’t think he was making it past Charlotte at 14. Golden State and OKC might’ve grabbed him too

There was essentially no chance he'd slide past Charlotte.

in fact, they were said to be wanting to trade up to 11 specifically for him:

Morez was their guy (probably Mara too, but that was always a long shot). Steinbach is a very good consolation prize.

I remember a couple of months ago when Morez was mocked in the back half of the 20s and saying that he would be fringe lottery and then everyone else kept telling me he'd be back at Michigan to repeat

Seems like most agree 9 was the high end

This sports has some stupid GMs in it especially with a draft where second rounders are like fourth and fifth rounders in the NFL
People love to say 2nd rounders have no/little value and it just isn’t true. Sure not a lot of them might not work out, but you can get some good players in that round, especially with so much emphasis on the youngsters early. I seem to remember Ayo being a second rounder. But the real value is as currency. All those trades up were made using 2nd rounders. OKC has been collecting draft picks for years, and a fair amount have been 2nd rounders for that exact reason.

Well, if they traded down, then you run the risk of Morez (who was obviously their guy because, well, they picked him) getting selected by the next 1 or 2 picks and never falling to you again.

People just want to dislike Morez. His stock was higher than many think. Floor was thought to be Charlotte at 14, and was getting consideration as high as Atlanta at 8.

#9 is perfectly reasonable. It's just some people figured Mara to be the better option. Doesn't mean Dallas saw it that way.
Sure and I've said, multiple times now, that if that was really their evaluation then that's fine.

But if they drafted him at 9 over others solely because of "fit," which is what the post I was responding to suggested, then that is dumb. If it's about "fit" and not because you really like the guy, you trade down and are OK if you don't get him! Not sure why this is a difficult concept. Very interesting how I was responding to a very specific comment, and seemingly every single subsequent comment completely strips away the entire context of that discussion.
