When was the last time an Illinois coach used zone a lot? Trying to think. Don't recall Groce or Weber employing it much.
Good question... Not real sure about Groce, but Weber was almost exclusively man to man. Kruger maybe?

I can't believe we lost to a 14 seed.
*opens the book of Illini tears*

In 1987, the team that would become the Flyin' Illini lost to 14 seed Austin Peay as a 3 seed. At least we got a headstand from Dick Vitale out of it...

I think he should practice it some as well, but at the point of the tournament and a 1 day prep, you can't prepare in that time frame. It hurts seeing the zone bug loyola, but like I said, it's understandable why Underwood didn't try it. At the end of the day, our coach was thinking the same thing we were all game. Sooner or later we will make a run and take over. It just never happened...
He could have/should have practiced it throughout the season and implemented in games. It's not difficult to do that. That's part of coaching and preparation. I like Underwood but that was a glaring omission that we didn't prepare for things like that and implement throughout the season. When we pressed Loyola it looked like we had no idea how to do it as Loyola broke thru it easily or we would pretend to press and then back off once they got the ball inbounds. I would like to see Underwood implement flexibility on defense more going forward. That's all I'm asking and I think most would agree.

Good points. You would think that a pre-season Top 5 team has enough tools and experience to expand their toolbox. Doesn't seem like too much to ask.

Scintillating hoops action. .59 PPP for Loyola in half #1. They were 1.127PPP vs IL. Krutwig looks like a middle aged insurance salesman in the weekend rec league so far.
The only thing missing from this game to bring it to full dumpster fire status is a handful of missed dunks.

Man, I don’t know about you but I’m loving this Loyola meltdown. Oregon St is a good team but they aren’t world beaters. Illinois got out schemed and I’m angry about it. This Loyola team just isn’t that talented and it’s coming to show in this game.

it sure is fun to watch it unfold.

Anyone else feeling sick after realizing the team that eliminated us just put up 16 in the first half versus a 12 seed? Sheesh.
Where in the heck was this shooting last weekend against illinois. They were impeccable last week. Their offense was a well-oiled machine getting high percentage shots and slicing and dicing through a very good Illinois defense. Ugh

I have the exact opposite reaction. It makes me physically sick to watch it unfold.
