Howard is a BAD in-game coach.
Couldn't agree more. Brooks and Brown
should have been a much bigger part of their offense. Brown wasn't afraid of the moment and they ignored him for Air Franz.

UCLA (and Tom Izzo) did us a favor. Just think if MSU doesn't choke that game away in the First Four, Michigan is probably going to the Final Four.

Well, maybe the talking heads overrated the B1G a tad this year....or the style of play does not lend itself to the Big Dance. I thought Michigan had enough perimeter shooting to contend, but they just went to Dickinson every time in the clutch and he threw up a lot of wild shots...but some went in!

Hats off to the Bruins and especially Zujang who played an incredible game...even after the ankle injury. The whole UCLA team believed in themselves and their coaches plan. They showed what a group pulling together can accomplish.

As for Michigan, they couldn't beat Baylor or the Zags in a month of Sundays. Big and slow, and without the perimeter threat of Livers, they did not have the game to beat either of the top two. I pulled for every B1G team, but it is very hard pulling for MIchigan...in any sport...for my 65 years of watching and competing in college athletics. There is a certain satisfaction that many get when Michigan loses...especially Illini fans.

Finally, I like that Underwood is trying to recruit and develop bigger, athletic shooters. Watching Baylor's guards scoring at will with outstanding ball handling, elite speed to the hoop off the dribble, and a plethora of excellent shooters, they seemed unbeatable....but so do the Zags. Hope we get that match-up on Monday night. But we saw many games where speed and quickness...coupled with good defense and strong perimeter offense,...negated any height advantages like Michigan, Purdue, Illinois, and Iowa relied upon. OSU pretty much proved that night in and night out...no one dominated them. Yet in the long run, the Bucks may have had to work too hard during the season resulting in getting tired down the stretch. Anyway, I hope Hutcherson is back full speed next year and Grandison and Hawk take the next step up. If Kofi is gone, we may see a quicker Illini team that will play a more exciting style, and let's hope they do it at both ends. Both the Flyin' Illini and the '05 Illini were undersized...and yet were also unbelievably quick....and the two best Illini teams ever.

And the backboard. Mostly the backboard and the heel of the rim. No net though.
He's so tremendously overrated.
I don’t get it. What do people see in this guy’s game that make him a future lottery pick? I have seen nothing but mediocrity from “Air” Wagner and complete choke jobs when it really counts. He and Zach Griffith scored the same number of points in the beatdown we gave them earlier this month.

So does the Big win another title any time soon? Really think there is a issue with the style of play in the league that doesn’t attract the 5 star types and puts even the top teams in the league at a athletic deficit against other power conference foes. Acc Big 12 PAC 12 call a much more offensive friendly game from what I see which makes a more enjoyable product and somewhere easier to attract elite talent to.

I totally agree about the officials. The Big10 also lacks consistency between crews. It’s crazy to me that the Illini could play one game clean with both teams barely in the bonus each half - good flow, and another game has nearly 60 fouls called across both teams. The only difference is the crew.

I think some refs cater to a style of play; call touch fouls on the perimeter but let the bigs maul each other, for example.

I also think some refs have biases, and are straight up fixing games. When there isn’t consistency enforced from game to game it makes it easy to mask any biases.

I know they’re all independent contractors, but the Big clearly has their crew. Maybe it’s time to clean house?

What horrendous games for Wagner and Smith. But let’s call it like it is, this was the Juzang show.

Ok routing interest
Baylor coach Drew seems nice, but recent program sexual assault allegations. And murder like 20 years ago harder to root for.
Houston program seems fine, haven’t been relevant for many years, but coach not one to root for.
UCLA has already won a championship.
Gonzaga undefeated and could ruin Indiana’s claim to perfect season, best team ever.
go zags.

UCLA totally grew on me as the game went on. Good points about Baylor and can't root for Sampson's Houston or the Zag headbands. Go Bruins - just seem so out-manned, but figure out a way.

House cleaning must start at the very top of the League office in my opinion. Will take a coordinated effort of AD's and Univ presidents. If it does not happen sooner rather than later I believe the league will continue its "mediocre" tournament performances.

Honestly I think it starts with officiating. Most Big 10 games were officiated horribly and in the tourney most games have very low foul totals, teams are allowed to be physical, travels which are usually called in B10 play don't get called etc etc. Even our usual suspects in the B10 like Boroski and Larry call the game more reasonably in the tournament.
