I feel like we are back to being a moral victory kind of team, where we make it close so everybody thinks everything is ok.

No it really isn’t. They are inexperienced as hell…and haven’t played anybody of that caliber until now. But they’re also a little soft…Two things can be true at once. It is what it is. (Brad has said they sometimes play soft too.)

I think we kind of knew games like this were coming. A lot of hard lessons for the boys tonight. We are too undisciplined right now. We weren’t out manned, we were out executed. It can be fixed.
We were outmanned. Alabama is a more talented team. Talented players execute better.

That said, I think we'll get better as the year goes on. Agree with others that Will should start and Morez should play more minutes.

Game was lost in the first 5 minutes. Came out with zero intensity and let a top ten team feel comfortable; not a recipe for success. Not the last learning experience this team will have this season, and a few good moments in the second half. Would like to see many more minutes for DGL and Morez, many fewer for TW and BH.
Saw too many minutes from DGL also saw too many minutes with kj, Boswell and DGL at the same time. Riley needs more of tre minutes. For most part liked Morez but freshman will be freshman.

Still unsure about KJ - was late to jump on his bandwagon. Most European guards aren’t impact players but reports from Illinois he is the best player / haven’t seen it but better tonight minus the turnovers

Lot of good, more bad but liked the Illinois fight. Still learning.

On a Positive note- we played them essentially even in the second half after we got used to their physicality on defense. Boswell and Riley settled in really well and one could see Will partly growing up before our eyes and as a team we should get better and better getting used to this level of competition. Bad news is that Tre appears to be a ball hog and chemistry killer- I'd be fine with him playing < 10 minutes/game. I'd even give Davis a try over him. Booth appears way too soft to be a factor. KJ has to tighten up his handle and passing decision-making which I think he will achieve. Their guards had better handles than ours- very impressive. Ben is a defensive liability for sure- why did he keep helping off Nelson in the corner and letting him have open 3 point shots? And our FT shooting was terrible- have to clean that up. Seems like that has been a BU team theme except for last year.

Definitely on Will and Morez.

Morez needs more PT at the 4 or the 5. Tomi needs to stop launching 3’s like scud missiles. Tre needs to go out in the forest and reevaluate his life and the type of player he’s gonna be for us. Take Ben with him.

The analytics don’t paint the whole picture. Tomi is offensively gifted, but he got exposed on defense. The big runs or comebacks it seemed Morez was on the floor or made a big play..
I think you should rewatch the game.

Illini defense has to improve if we want to compete in the B$G....

Seems like every bama freed up the dribbler...ourselves not so much...

Will Riley needs to start over Trey White....

NEXT...........
Every bama screen freed up.....I left out screen.....oh well , blame it on the Brownie Scout.....

We went on a run and then the clocks went out. I believe it slowed us down. Free throws and that guy going crazy from 3 doesn’t make sense.

Calling all Illinois free-throw shooters, start putting some arch on your free throw shot. Good gravy. Too flat. If we make those free throws, we can win this game.

I know it won't change until Underwood Sr. gets sick of being embarrassed.
Boswell, DGL, Riley, Tommi, and Morez!
Morez down low, Tomi at Free throw line, high pick in roll. Drop to Morez, float to 3 line, and sink it. Defense low post rim protection. Tre, Ben, Kj. Booth are liabilities on defense. We score 85 and give up a Hondo! I sure hope it gets better. We love the uniform and players who give all.

This team has so much potential and talent but tonight it was about:

* Horrendous defense. This is my big concern. Not sure what our ceiling is there.

* Sloppy play especially in key moments. Some of that is youth but some of it just the guys we’ve got.

* Awful FT shooting which I hope is an anomaly.

Not terribly disappointed but this non-conference could be rough.

Tomi's guy went for a fly-by layup and ran out of bounds. It was time for Tomi and everyone else to sprint down the court and have a 5 on 4, but their center beat most of our lollygagging guys.

They were fast! Lots of guys screening on and off ball, slashing and running. Made us look slow and un-athletic. It's surprising that the score wasn't worse than it was. We had a spurt with DGL, Riley, Johnson, and Boswell. Don't know who the 5th guy was Ben maybe.

Somebody needed to raise hell about them rebounding their makes and throwing them to the ref. Put a stop to it with a warning and a tech.

A friend of mine is a Zona fan, he said Boswell is either hot or cold. When he is cold, he is a liability. This game he did better.
Boswell has played fine and was very good today. He lost a lot of weight but is still strong. I think that will.have a big impact this season. His D will be a force all season. He did great vs Sears tonight.

Not claiming to be more knowledgable, but it seemed like the ball didn't "stick," and we weren't dribbling out front nearly as much as when KJ runs point. I know we want to run the pick and roll when he's in, and he is normally really good at it. But not against a team as athletic as Bama.
He also had 6 turnovers. He’s too good to have a 1:1 assist/TO ratio.

I’m split…on one hand, you don’t need to squint to see this team’s potential. If we go 35% from 3 and shoot above, say, 65% from the line, we can take down any team in the country.

At the same time, the defense is so egregiously bad it’s hard to tell what the ceiling is.

This team is S O F T
Name does NOT check out. Alabama is real. We were at their house after they lost to Purdue on the road. We are playing (2) 3rd year players, (2) 2nd year players, and (4) first year players. You were probably the kid the complained that Santa left him something he didn't ask for.

Exactly what I expected. Some great moments and some tough ones. The potential here is off the charts, but defense HAS to be better. However, Bama may be the best team we play this season. Need to get 2/3 of the Arkansas/Tennessee/Mizzou games. I love how we match up with big ten teams.
