I'm pretty sure those days are over, unless you're willing to accept a big drop in talent level.

I don't think that's necessarily true, although admittedly it's hard to thread that needle. There are plenty of guys who have high major type talent who are not one and done types, and if the money and role are right I don't think those guys are necessarily always gonna transfer out. That's where the high character comes in--I refuse to believe there aren't kids to whom building something, keeping a commitment, battling through adversity, etc. means something.

The most numb I've felt to a tournament loss by Illinois ever. And not even in a salty way. They just kind of played like they have all season and that's pretty much all I expected
Oh, we have had worse Dance loses, just none this inept and lacking in effort most of the game. We handed them the game by not valuing the ball. That is mental and effort and caring. Never saw a team look so ready to get a season over with. I think there was some bad chemistry amongst that group, just not an inability to gel.

What is the over/under on number of hours before an Illinois player enters the portal?

And number of days before we get a portal commitment?
We already have 1 in the portal Skyy

I think the players and coaches need time to think about the season and path forward. I don’t see anyone getting drafted from this team until late second round at best

The question for players who think they are ready for the pros does 1 more year help you or are you better going overseas

The players who know they aren’t ready for the pros do you want to be part of BU program. BU needs to recruit the current players he wants back also

These questions aren’t unique to our program but players need time

I took it as there would be mass roster turnover again. You could also read it as saying we'd be markedly better next year. Vague comment.
I'd rather not recognize this roster next year. It's a sincere comment. I'd rather watch a bunch of 3 stars who play cohesive, smart basketball.

We need to put the “everyday guys” phrase to rest. As a composite, this team was the exact opposite of everyday guys. Everyday guys implies that we work harder and smarter than the opposition. That was not remotely close to being true this year.

When they said they’re a team built for March, hopefully they meant NEXT MARCH.

Officially Cubs season! It was a mediocre run everyone! We beat UCLA and Texas!

That's my gripe w/ Brad this year--if someone isn't running the offense they need to sit, no matter how high our expectations were. I suspect that Brad thought these guys would play through it and step up, but that's not what happened. Still, it was a fun season and even some of the losses were great games (although some weren't).

I-L-L!!
Well, yeah. That, and throwing a punch at a teammate, and calling out the coach in the press for the offense he's running and then refusing to run that offense, and...

The day will come pretty quickly when he becomes a guy you just see in highlights once in a blue moon and otherwise can forget, and I'm looking forward to it.

Not the ending any of us hoped for. Looking ahead, I hope that we bring in team first kind of guys from the portal. I also am hopeful that RJ and Luke stay the course, as well as our freshmen. Hoping specifically that the mid and late season concerns re RJ and Epps not appearing happy at times is just the ebbs and flows of a grueling season filled at times with frustration.
Bringing in two decent rated freshmen next year leaves us with a lot of gaps. CoHawk is likely gone as he appears in many mocks as a late first to mid second round pick. Hoping he returns.
Lots of work to do in the portal in my opinion. Please, please, please find shooters, a solid big that can make free throws and minimize turnovers; and team first, every day guys.

If this was TSJ's last game in college, I want to say I respect what he tried doing out there today. He played hard and with a lot of effort on both ends of the floor. He played downhill and tried his hardest. Our freshmen in Sencire and Ty shook off their first half jitters and played great second halves. Based on how they played I think we were 4 minutes too late getting them in the game, but they did a really solid job for us. Dain also had a good tourney showing and played with the aggressiveness on the boards we'll need in seasons to come. And RJ flat out showed up tonight. It's a shame injury kept him from doing this all season.

It was a really frustrating year as a fan, but I see a lot of promise with our young core. Gut feel is next year we'll be better, and the year after that will have a team that can make a deep deep run. Lock down our young core, get a talented PG, and an offseason in the weight room will do us wonders. For as much as watching this year's team frustrated me, I look forward even more to seeing next year's.

Really happy to have been working through this one. This team was always flawed, a couple of crazy hero performances never changed that.

Encouraged by Harris, Epps and Rodgers for next season.

Dainja just completely stopped being effective about 3 weeks ago, particularly defensively. No idea what's up with that.

Hawkins max effort every game, but just not there offensively enough, and too many silly turnovers.

RJ was great today, but disappeared for about the entire month of January.

Goode hard to judge, hopefully can get 100% this summer and make shots, something this team badly needs.

Shannon and Mayer were either dominant or invisible, there was no in-between. It just never felt like they worked well together and with the team.

Underwood changed offensive and defensive strategies midseason to appease Shannon and Mayer, and it never really felt like things clicked offensively after that. Defensively they were solid up until 3 weeks ago but that completely fell apart in February/March.

This was always going to be a rebuilding year with Kofi gone, was just hoping it would gel together better with all those high rated prospects and transfers.

Really need to get something going offensively going forward with recruiting and transfer market.

I am thankful for Shannon and Mayer choosing to come here, but I think we will be better off with the freshman group we have.

Because, honestly, I very sincerely believe a core of Melendez, Goode, Hawkins (he’s GOT to chill) and this year’s freshmen would win more games than this year’s team.
You may be right. TSJ does some great individual things, but we saw when he was out that we really didn't miss him terribly. And the "idea" of Mayer was great, but unfortunately his production didn't live up to that idea. Even replacing those two players with less talented guys, we still might end up as a better TEAM.
