How many Big Ten schools make the NCAA tourney this year? I'm guessing 6 or 7
Locks would be: Indiana, MSU, Maryland, Purdue, Iowa
Bubble: Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State

I always go off the key, top 6 are in. 7,8,9 are bubbles. Should always get 8 as long as the B1G is competitive

Top 8 or 11 B1G wins = youre in.

Minnesota announced they've suspended the three guys who missed the Illinois game for the rest of the season. Thinking the 12 seed might be better than an 11 seed game if its against Rutgers. Believe they should have their star player back by that point so overall I feel Minnesota's safer for not only playing, but getting our guys rest. Winning 5 games in 5 days would be tough enough as it is so can't say I wouldn't mind a blow out like our second half on Sunday.

I'd love to win the tournament, obviously, but not at all expecting that to happen. So my realistic hope is that we can win a game or two just to give JCL a very decent chance of breaking the record.

Would love the 11 seed game. Tired of only seeing part of the games at work, would love to be able to see it all for the first time in awhile.

Underrated piece of the puzzle if you think Illini have any chance at springing the upset and making it to day 3 or beyond of the tournament:

11 seed plays at 7 PM on Wednesday and then the last game on Thursday (likely a 25-26 hours rest period).

12 seed plays at 4:30 PM Wednesday and then game 2 on Thursday. With the first game starting on-time at 12, probably tip-off around 2:30 so a 22ish hour rest period between games

May not seem like much but I think the extra few hours of rest could be very helpful, especially as bench's tend to shorten in loser-go-home games.

The last projection I saw was Michigan as an 11 seed. They need another win or two or they're NIT bound. Ohio State will be close. They remind me of us the last 3 seasons when we were squarely on the bubble.

Wisconsin is in....but man that Western Illinois loss is baffling, eh?

Well looks like Iowa is starting to circle the drain. Really need the win against Michigan. Not that I'm complaining.

Wisconsin will finish no worse than 4th in the conference. I can't believe they did it again, especially the way they started the year.

Greg Gard deserves to be named full time coach. He has done a great job under tough circumstances. He gets my vote for B!G coach of the year. What a masterful job. Top 4 like 15 years in a row, wow!!

Tom Crean gets my vote for B10 Coach of the Year. He adjusted brilliantly when he lost McD AA Blackmon & O.G. Anunoby has developed at the speed of light.

Anunoby and Morgan as freshman did a heck of a job on Hill (limiting him to 5 pts.). Defensively they are as good a freshman as I've seen. They also were big factors down the stretch at Iowa.
Anunoby was a 3*/NR recruit and Morgan was composite #110.

I tend to agree, begrudgingly, though I think Greg Gard should get honorable mention, that team could easily have finished 9th or 10th in conference but he has them going to the dance.

And a big fat contract along with a performance bonus for this year.

Kruger's 98-99 team was dead last in the B1G w/3-13 record and they made it to the finals of the BTT that year.
*I know that people will bring up that we were not last because of tOSU forfeits but in reality we were dead last in regulars season.

That was a great run, as I recall if we had beaten MSU in my mind that was going to be roughly equivalent to making the final four, we beat 3 tournament teams and lost to MSU who was a one seed & the quality of team we would have had to beat to make the final 4...but we weren't even close to beating MSU

...point being, that was a history making run and we still weren't all that close in the end to winning the tournament.

Illinois wins out = 10 or 11 or 12 seed
Illinois loses to Maryland & beats Penn State = 11 or 12 seed
Illinois loses to Penn State = 12 seed

Illini B1G Tourney Seeds*

* it's entirely possible that this chart is not 100% correct

If I read this correctly, we are the 11 seed if we win on Sunday and we are the 12 if we lose. It has finally become very simple.
In the 17th games
Maryland > Illinois
Purdue > Nebraska
Northwestern > PSU

MSU beat Northwestern in the opening round by 2...coulda happened

Anything is technically possible in one game, but I believe up until the big expanded, that Illinois team was the only 11 seed to win a B1G tourney game, & that team won 3. So as amazing as the run was, they still had a number 2 ranked. final 4 bound MSU team that beat them by 17 points to prevent the fairy tale ending of winning the tourney and making it to the NCAA. Beating 3 ranked teams for the last place team in the B1G was 3 large upsets, but even after that I expected to get our heads handed to us by MSU.

I was watching Frankie Highlights at lunch of the following year & they showed the run on the broadcast.
