Our QB rollout game under Rod and Tony had issues, always seemed the roll was right at/into the oncoming unblocked defensive end who was able to immediately disrupt and pressure the QBIllinois really struggled in 3rd down and long situations. Brandon Peters was hurried or sacked too many times when the defense knew we had to pass. Hopefully Lunney will incorporate more screen passes and tight end block then release patterns to to keep the defense on its heels. Also play action rollouts which give the QB a little more time and a clear view of receivers. Hope springs eternal.
Glad it’s at least being thought about in those terms, but it will be a challenge to find that right balance.
color me impressed with coach Lunney.....................
Better or worse than a Brian Kelly twang?Arkansas twang
Very personable. I see why he's thought of so highly by people at Arkansas and UTSA. I liked how he was willing to mix it up with Gavin Gladtomeetyu on the first day.
I chuckled when that transpired and glad you posted a reminder of it.......my age means I forget some things......thanks.........Very personable. I see why he's thought of so highly by people at Arkansas and UTSA. I liked how he was willing to mix it up with Gavin Gladtomeetyu on the first day.
You’re sure it’s ONLY your age that makes you forget sometimes?I chuckled when that transpired and glad you posted a reminder of it.......my age means I forget some things......thanks.........
forget what ?You’re sure it’s ONLY your age that makes you forget sometimes?
Also thought the remark about his habit of giving a 'long answer to a short question' was cool...I chuckled when that transpired and glad you posted a reminder of it.......my age means I forget some things......thanks.........
I totally agree with this but Barker and Ford had 33 receptions together last year. Two main factors that held them back were both missed 4 games last season and you had two QBs who couldn't hit a sitting target. Peters had a conference completion percentage of 53% and Sitkowski was just under 46%. Barker/Ford amounted for 20% of the completions and 46% of the receiving TDs. They were highly effective when on the field but I agree can be utlitized even more and hopefully stay on the field healthy next season.I hope we start using our tight ends more. Watching Travis Kelsey and George Kittle dominate on Sundays is inspiring.
I think Tim Brewster had 50 catches per year his JR and SR season under Mike White.
Luke Ford had only 15 catches last year for the Illini.
JMO but a 8 yd pass to the tight end across the middle is a high percentage play. The tight end should be able to get a step on the LB who has to worry about whether the tight end is blocking or going out for a pass.
Jon Budmayr was CSU's OC last year. Interesting up-and-coming coach. Was Wisconsin QB coach prior to his year at CSU. Originally from Woodstock, IL and is only 31. Would love to see us find a way to add him to the staff since he's currently out of work but would think he is headed for a better spot than a position coach. I would give "credit" for the 3-9 record to Addazio.Terry McBride AA tight end Colorado State
90 receptions for 1010 yds 1 TD
His backup Gary Williams had 21 catches and 5 TD
His backup backup Cameron Butler had 10 catches and 3 TD
that coach loves to throw to tight ends.
Of course they finished 3-9 in Mountain West. They averaged 415 yds offense per game vs. Illinois 330
And then he proceeded to prove himself right. Also thought the remark about his habit of giving a 'long answer to a short question' was cool...
