Basketball Transfer Thread

Transfer or sixth year is still a possibility, although getting smaller as time goes by. The alternative is to award it to Alex Austin for his senior year and use it on 2017 recruits moving forward.

At this point I also could see us trying to pick up a mid year transfer.

Awfully quiet on the Matthew's front. He left UM w/o committing. Still a chance for Illinois??

Doubtful. I have a good friend who is very close to Michigan recruiting and Michigan feels very good about getting Matthews. My guess is that Matthews has just narrowed his choices to Michigan and Xavier and will announce where he is going once he is done with the Xavier visit. Since he has already gone through the recruiting game in high school and has already transferred out after one year, I am sure he wants to be certain that his next stop is truly the best fit for him. Hence, the reason for taking the visit to Xavier after his visit to Michigan.

Ray Kasongo from Oregon to Tennessee to Iowa State. Maybe he'll use his 4th year of eligibility at SMU. :D

I would have taken him. I wonder if the lack of interest was more on our side or his? We could use more NBA caliber athletes, although Matthews would have had to compete with DJW, AJ, Kipper, and whoever we bring in on the wing in 2017. Hopefully this means, at least in part, that Groce feels confident we'll land one or two of our top SG/SF prospects in the upcoming class.

Ouch.. It's going to tough replacing Shavon Shields and Andrew White. Nebraska is going to have a rough year. Watch him go back to Kansas. :D

Do we have any shot at White?

No, would be an educated guess. If you are Andrew White, you're probably looking for a higher level program to showcase your talents to NBA scouts, and/or an opportunity to play major minutes at your position. Illinois can offer neither one of the above. Pretty much plays the same position as Hill and he flirted with leaving for the NBA this year.

No thanks on this kid. Why he would wait until the middle of June to transfer is beyond me. Also I read that he didn't even speak with Tim Miles about leaving and instead spoke with their AD. IMO he demonstrated a complete lack of respect for the team and coaches there.

Can't judge the situation unless you know all the facts.
