Big Ten All-Conference Awards

Hope the team uses the lack of defensive awards as a motivator. The truth comes down to this Coleman and Terrance are great defenders but we were a bad defensive team and gave up lots of points. It's why a good player on a bad team usually doesn't make first team all big ten... You need the wins to back up the stats

It makes sense to me why Hawkins didn't get the all defensive team nod. He gave up a lot of points in the paint. He probably should be guarding the opposing 4, so that's not unexpected or surprising given him playing out of position. I do think TSJ has a better gripe for not getting it. He routinely took the opposing teams best player and locked them down.

I thought Hawkins might be on the second team all conference though. I do wonder if his sometimes demonstrative play resulted in him missing that mark.

i do hope the "snub" give Coleman the additional encouragement to play his best from here on out.
He can be a force whether he's hitting three's or not.

Painter is incredibly overrated as a coach. Sorry. The guy almost always has at least one awesome player on his team. Who wouldn't win with the team he has the last 4-5 years?
Isn't securing awesome players part of coaching? I'd argue that it's the most significant part. He deserves the award.

Do you not see who was unanimous and who wasn't? It's literally right there in your face. That should be your first clue that some literally argue Buie over TSJ. I've heard that the entire year from the college basketball 'experts'. The latest being Mark Titus a week or so ago saying he's the 2nd best player in the conference on his podcast.
Well not sure having a podcast makes you a college basketball expert, but I took the OP’s meaning to be that Shannon didn’t get unanimous because of the off court problem and not based upon his play.

That’s why I put experts in quotes and I also said he hasn’t been the only one. I don’t know what the reason TSJ wasn’t unanimous I’m saying he’s a better player than Buie. All of this I’ve clearly stated, none of this is hard to understand.

Ha, isn't that an argument against Underwood too then?
Does anyone remember what our preseason rankings were nationally and in the Big? For COY accolades, that delta should be part of the equation. And movements within the top 20 nationally or top 5 in the Big should carry more weight than being 38 in Kenpom vs preseason 120 or 7th in the Big when you were expected to be last. TBH, this probably is as big of an argument for Collins at NW as it is for Underwood.

TSJ not getting a sniff on the Defensive teams is an absolute joke and also how does he not get unanimously picked and boobie did...........these are more popularity contests than based on merit.......also , Hoiberg should get coty instead of co-coach.....

JMHO....................
I agree. So, if you have the ball in your hands and plan on scoring, you'd rather be guarded by TSJ than Ace or Chucky?
Only clowns who have never played ball make that choice. A long quick defender is an offensive player's worst nightmare.
How many shots did Ace and Chucky block from behind after initially being beat?

I like that all of our players are classy. If they have a flaw is that they overpass and are too unselfish. That’s a good problem to have. The only possible exception is domask-you know when he’s going to shoot from the second he gets the ball but you can’t argue with his success.

I just really hope he doesn't fall too much in love with his fadeaway in the portion of the season that remains.

He can make that shot, but forcing that shot is the defender winning the 1-on-1 battle, as Tyler Wahl frequently did in that Wisky game to no avail.

Domask feasts on impatient defenders. Keep doing that and don't become impatient yourself.

Looking at CBSSports:

Illinois 3rd preseason to 2nd in BT & 19th to 10th in Kenpom.
Nebraska 12th preseason to 3rd & 58th to 32nd in Kenpom
Northwestern 7th preseason to 4th & 40th to 41st >.< in Kenpom

Honestly this is the best argument for Hoiberg, the fact he won it without beating anyone with a pulse on the road is still ungood.

That shot is one of many within a range of pivots and counters that keeps the defender off balance. He usually has his feet under him and is on balance when he goes to it. There’s an efficiency there.

I’d like to know our season’s PPP on Domask bootyball possessions.

Agree with your earlier point on us sucking on defense collectively and therefore not getting recognition individually.

As others have said, Coleman is playing out of position defensively. It’s a personal defensive efficiency sacrifice to help us stay within underwood’s overall philosophy of contested 2s from seemingly any distance. BU has referenced post ups as one of the least efficient means of offense in the NBA, and he clearly feels comfortable giving up post looks (and wide open mid range pull-ups vs drop coverage) to try to limit 3 point attempts.

I’m interested in how many non B10 teams can punish us in the post when we hit the tournament. The flip side is, I think big12/sec athletes can guard us a little better.

Sorry that turned into a whole thing lol
