I mean, how do we even respond to something ONE person MAY HAVE SAID AT A TAILGATE. Like, i'm all for grabbing up our torch and pitchforks, but c'mon now.

Josey is a respected poster. The only other time I remember him sharing information, he told us DJW would be committing and it happened almost immediately after. He is not one of our spammers.

It appears the decisions are being made by people who know NOTHING about sports, care NOTHING about sports and don't/won't listen to the people that do.

I have been a fan since I was a kid in the late 60's, so I was too young to remember or understand the slush fund era at the time, but I am as disappointed as I have ever been. The administration just doesn't care.

Not sure where this goes, but living in Iowa City this past year has been a constant display of how far behind Illinois really is in Football. And I'm not just talking about coaching stability. But this past week has been the worst. Friends getting ready to go to Indy to see the team they like go play in the B1G champ game, and we screw this deal up and looks like rock bottom is coming up. I'm not even made they kept Cubit on at coach, but why not set up a deal with him that is 4 years and still has the buy out ready to go after next year. On paper it looks good for him and stability for recruiting, while allowing a new AD to start fresh after next year if they choose.

What does Iowa football have to do with the state of the Illinois program? Iowa had a very fortunate season where everything went their way, even the game against Illinois. I believe this is an anomaly in Iowa.

Watching the 10:00 news on fox 2 stl, and at the end of the sports segment the sports guy is talking to the 2 news anchors at their desk about the mizzou coaching search. One of the anchors is an Illinois grad, and he says to the sports director, "Unlike Illinois, you guys will actually get to pick a good coach."

I lol'd

In no way am I saying he isn't. I'm sure what he is saying is 100% true. A players mom is mad about something regarding the program. That's all fine and good, but it's pretty far down the totem pole for things to get worked up about.

For me it is a daily reminder of what I would like Illinois football to become right now. And I'm not just pointing at 12-0. I think what Iowa has done should be a realistic goal if the AD that comes on can get things right. Did things break the right way for Iowa this year, sure. Good things seem to happen when you are fundamentally sounds in nearly all aspects of the game. I credit a stable coaching staff for that.

the problem is that Beckman was fired and this kind of behavior was one of the reasons why, yet Cubit is not only retained, but given a disastrous 2 year deal that will ruin the program. The administration fired Beckman for his mistreatment of players, Thomas for his association with that and the WBB and soccer issues, and yet Cubit - who was on staff and knew about the mistreatment unless he was the worst and most oblivious coach ever - is painted as the program's white knight of virtue and "stability".

I can agree with that. However, I do think it is interesting that in the not so distant past, many were calling for Ferentz's head.

To put any dreams of glamour that Cubit will magically follow the Ferentz mold, please remember that Kirk's floor as a coach has been way higher than Cubit's for their entire career. Iowa just wanted to move on because they have higher standards.

I'd be a lot less pi$$ed about this extension if it came after the season and we had already interviews and been turned down by a few higher profile guys who are available. The fact that this happened last week before the season was over and the entire pool of eligible candidates was even known screams, "we don't care about fixing the problems here."

I'm sure someone else has already pointed this out and I'm just being redundant, I haven't read the whole thread, I'm just still all around mad

This is funny. I live in the Iowa City area and work with a bunch of Iowa fans that wanted Ferentz gone before this season. Some were expecting them to tank. Now they all love him again.

I know. I reminded all my friends they are idiots. Esp. now when they are all pissed at things Finebaum and Cowhered are saying about them. It was everything Hawk fans said at the start of the year. I also work for an apparel company and we have a Iowa license. I couldn't give away Iowa apparel to start the year. Now its going like crazy.

I bite my lip when it comes to it and just agree with them all as I like the guys I work with. But, they had an easy schedule and I expect MSU to roll them.

Dino Babers reportedly has talked to a lot of schools this week. Seems intent on leaving Bowling Green, even for less than "ideal" situation

A less than ideal situation? And nobody even bothered to ask Babers if he'd be willing to take a two-year deal at $1.2 million that was specifically structured that way so we could freely pursue permanent AD candidates who refuse to work with him.

for the love of god buyout cubit now and just hire dino already. Sure we'll be the laughingstock of the NCAA for the next 2 months for extending and firing a coach in the same week, but 2 months is a whole lot shorter than 2 years (and it will probably be a heck of a lot longer than 2 years)

My question is why does he want out of BG so desperately? Does he know what his future recruiting class entails (snicker) and is afraid his stock could go down after a down season or two?

My guess is that he realizes that he's no longer a spring chicken and he needs to move up before it's too late. He doesn't truly get the option of playing the waiting game like a Herman can.

Cubit doesn't have a buyout this year from my understanding. Have to wait til the end of next season or I guess pay the full 1.2 million.
