Bob Huggins and the Oakland athletics announcer r not having a good week.
Are you referring to Kuiper?I'll reluctantly chime in....I honestly can't tell. And I say this coming from a deep south (Texas) family where my grandmother was born and raised.
With her southern accent, she would refer to black Americans (as many did from her generation) as "negros"....but when she said it....it sounded like "neegras" or "nigrahs".
I'm not saying that was what this guy did.....but it doesn't sound like an obvious well spoken version of either word. It was an awkward pronunciation of either one.
It's not a good look obviously, but I'm not going to rush to convict him.

I think it’s more likely one of the following will go down:Jesse Edwards might become available again, apparently Huggins said a particular phrase on the radio and he might get fired.
It sounded to me like Kuiper started with "nee", and then it went wrong. I would think if it was a slip (of something he was accustomed to saying), he would have started differently and then tried to correct course. If they find that he mispronounced it out of habit, then he certainly deserves to be fired. I'm not convinced it was anything but a marble-mouthed moment at this point though.I'll reluctantly chime in....I honestly can't tell. There's a big difference between some guy on the street calling you a Nazi, and a sportscaster using the n-word on air. If he had called a German guy a Nazi, then it would be apples to apples. Or referred to a German museum as a Gernazi museum. We have such a baby whiny indoctrinated bunch of goofs here in America where anything said will offend them. Thats the BIG WC which means who cares? LOL I am German, if someone wants to call me a Nazi, so be it. I am not going to whine and get all bent out of shape. I have better things to do. LOL

Well, that wasn't the topic. So......There's a big difference between some guy on the street calling you a Nazi, and a sportscaster using the n-word on air. If he had called a German guy a Nazi, then it would be apples to apples. Or referred to a German museum as a Gernazi museum.

So…you can’t call people extremely insensitive slang terms that were once, and are still used to spread hate and harm. Just because you don’t mind being called a Nazi doesn’t mean it’s ok to call someone that. End of the debate. We have such a baby whiny indoctrinated bunch of goofs here in America where anything said will offend them. Thats the BIG WC which means who cares? Yup. Even ChatGPT be like “hey… I didn’t write that amateurish drivel.”That statement couldn't sound less like Huggins wrote it if they tried.
Dozens of people who stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night are now aware of this story.USA Today put a damning article on Huggins on their front page. Makes me wonder if the quick apology will make any difference. What's the over/under on him coaching another game there?
I don't know how the university can keep him employed. You can maybe excuse the first instance but he doubled down and said it again 15-20 seconds later. That was no accident.Dozens of people who stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night are now aware of this story.
I don't think that he gets fired over this unless the AD was already looking for a pretext.
If he survives this, he's literally untouchable. Most wouldn't have made it past this morning.I don't know how the university can keep him employed. You can maybe excuse the first instance but he doubled down and said it again 15-20 seconds later. That was no accident.
Meyers Leonard knows this all to well!If he survives this, he's literally untouchable. Most wouldn't have made it past this morning.
