Bowl Games & CFB Playoff

Typical Harbaugh couldnt bring himself to say Michigan lost to better team. " if only this or that had fallen in our favor." ..blah blah. Same way he gave Illinois no credit in our game with them.

you mean it’s not normal for a 48 year old guy to bring his mitt to a baseball playoff game ?

Given a choice between BIG prestige (and $) I’d rather see them loose. B$G greed led to those outrageous calls that cost us a win over Michigan.
So if the conference doesn’t do as well, it doesn’t get as much money, and therefore is not as greedy trying to maximize said money, thus minimizing the conference trying to screw teams such as Illinois? That is the argument for us losing in the playoff?

Alternatively, the conference does better, maximizing prestige, money, and tv coverage, which helps recruiting, donations for facilities and NIL, and funds to pay coaching. Would we be better off in this scenario relative to all the other non-big teams? I’d love it if the top 20 was all BIG teams. With us #1 of course.

All of you that hate on the Big Ten during bowl season make no sense to me…

The outcomes to yesterdays games were very bad for the conference, and thus, Illinois.

This board suffers from extreme cases of cutting of our nose to spite our face.
The day I'm forced to choose between cheering for Michigan and taking a machete to the face is the day I finally no longer have to smell their bs.

the scUM players said they beat themselves and mentioned they still think they're a better team than TCU. no one seems to want to give TCU any credit for the win

I don’t disagree, but why actively root against it and cheer when it doesn’t happen?

Because if you're a Bears fan, you don't cheer for the Packers? Tell a 90s Bulls fan to cheer for the Pistons or Knicks. Tell A Hawks fan in the old Norris division to cheer for the Wings or NorthStars. Or a Cubs fan to cheer for the Cards. Or an Illini fan to cheer for Hoosier basketball. You don't cheer for a hated rival. Eff those guys.

The Bears don’t get benefits for the NFC North doing well.

The 90’s Bulls didn't get benefits from the NBA Central division doing well.

Comparing collegiate teams to professional franchises is not an equal comparison.

I want to best for Illinois athletics, and unfortunately in the current landscape of how it works economically, rooting for the conference is part of that package… Illinois does better when the conference does better.

I want Michigan to lose every game they play.

Here’s the good news for you:

Who I root for has no impact on the game.

So I can cheer against Michigan and Michigan will still have the same odds to win the game.

Who fans choose to cheer for makes no difference whatsoever.

Well it’s better for the Big Ten to win but it’s not like scUM and tO$U got blown out. I don’t think it has that great a negative thing.

What more benefit do we get if O$U or scUM win. The Big Ten gets tons of money due to media. Those two teams are well respected. The most important thing is neither got blown out like in previous years. Plus USC and UCLA joining the conference what other conference besides the SEC competes

The ACC sucked this year based on bowl results. Big XII is going to lose its respect when OU and UT leave

College football will soon be 2 conferences and if you are a decent HS player you are not going to get the exposure unless you play in the BIG or SEC

Big ten doing well in the playoffs is good for the top 3-4 teams. I don't think it moves the needle for Illinois

It is better for the conference to have a good bowl record, but unless it is a 0 for all the bowls, it won't be a disaster.

It would have been nice for the conference if Ohio State upset Georgia, but oh well we can laugh at the Buckeyes. Personally if have to win on a 50 yard FG attempt, it is coaching's fault.

BTW IMO it is far better for collage football as a whole that TCU beat scUM even if the powers that be and the media aren't smart enough to realize it.
