Another thumb up for Guardians of the Galaxy. I haven't had that much fun at a movie in a long time (good thing, too, since my wife went into labor right after we saw it so won't be seeing another movie like that for a while at a theater!).

Congrats on the newborn!

I'm assuming you named the baby Star Lord right? :thumb:

I'm very, very envious.

Unfortunately, A Most Wanted Man wasn't playing anywhere near me. Hoffman was my favorite actor prior to his passing. :(

High brow in Conway being Roadhouse 2? ;-)

Kidding aside, one heck of a script, which isn't surprising considering the source (the book & author). But producers manage to screw it up all too often.

Really taut & realistic look at what's involved w/catching terrorists and the competing agendas of various agencies. Lots of good acting and kudos to the director.

Hoffman played the tired, effective and dogged leader of his group. Typical strong performance. The only time he breaks character is at the end, with an epic American eff bomb (not that anyone could blame him). RIP.

Truly a masterclass performance from PSH. Still sad he's not with us anymore.

Over the weekend I saw The Equalizer. Not a bad flick at all, but not a great flick. I would recommend renting it over seeing it in theaters.

The novel is top notch and David Fincher is (in my amateur opinion, of course) a modern master of the thriller genre, so I have high expectations for this film. The author of Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn, also wrote the screenplay. Color me excited. Tickets purchased for Friday night.

I'm hoping that's a "quick to Netflix" film much like Out of the Furnace was (which is still in my instant queue).

I caught This Is Where I Leave You last week. Same type of film in that it was entertaining, but I'm not sure it was worth the ticket price. I'm a big fan of Adam Driver though (Recommended viewing: Frances Ha on Netflix).

Gone Girl lived up to my inner hype machine. Highly recommend; especially if the thriller genre is up your alley. I'll refrain from further commentary because I don't want to give anything away! :thumb:

Good to know! Planning on going this week for sure. Book was a great page-turner that left me cold in the end, but I love some of Fincher's past films and the casting seems spot on.

Casting was perfect. Ben Affleck and Tyler Perry were great selections. Rosamund Pike will get an Oscar nomination.

I'll be seeing that in the next few weeks. This just looks like it'll be one of the best movies of the year. Thanks for your opinion, Ian!

Agree. Just got back from seeing it and it was very well done. The subject matter made had me wishing that Fincher had done this with the same aesthetic as Se7en, but this was still quite good.

Anybody plan on seeing Fury this weekend? I'll be catching it Tuesday. I'm interested to see how David Ayer follows up his 2012 film, End of Watch.
