I know most of you are talking about movies whose target demographic is older but those of you with kids might wanna see big hero 6. Typical sad story from Disney but very enjoyable and worth the 6 bucks. The story was pretty good and the animation is great. It's amazing how far animation has come since I was a kid.

Films of all walks of life are welcomed in this thread! :) Glad it was enjoyable. Big Hero 6 has received some really positive reviews and actually edged Interstellar last weekend at the box office.

Just got back from Nightcrawler. It has made my top 5 for 2014. Jake Gyllenhaal with a performance that should earn him a Best Actor nomination. If you are into thrillers, check this film out.

Anyone watch Dumb and Dumber Too? How was it?

I have not, but I've heard everyone say it's terrible. They are saying don't waste your money, and just watch the first one again. That's what the second one is.

Caught Fury yesterday. I'm not a big fan of war films, but the storyline was strong and some of the scenes were beautifully shot.

I agree with you guys on interstellar. I feel like it had the potential to be way better.
I liked Fury. I thought it was pretty awesome. But I always end up being a big fan of Brad Pitt movies. Not that I think he the best actor ever or anything, I just always like the movies he's in. Fight Club, Snatch, Troy, Mr and MRs Smith, Oceans 11,12,13(some of my all time favs) Inglorious Basterds just to name a few.

I like Pitt as well, I'll add a few of his movies I enjoyed, Burn After Reading, Seven, and 12 Monkeys.

I guess this would be the thread to say that it's absolutely outrageous that Sony bowed to the North Korean hackers in withdrawing "The Interview"

I realize the decision was almost entirely dictated by an insurance policy they had on the film, but the principle of it should matter more than a couple million that they were liable to lose on a movie like that (I heard it wasn't very good) to begin with.

I agree with everything you're saying, but ultimately it comes down to money and PR (which itself is driven by $$). The three major theatre chains refused to show it. Most rational people think that's an over-reaction, but there's that 1 in a million chance that something violent happens, and then everyone goes into hand-wringing and finger-pointing mode. "Why did they release the movie when they had been warned there would be violence???"

Personally, I'd say line up our Pacific fleet off the northwest coast of Japan, tell Korea we're showing any gosh-darned movie we want to, and the slightest hint of a violent attack tied back to North Korea will finally resolve what began in 1945. Kim Jong-Un is a freaking joke and there's no reason whatsoever that any corporation, government, or individual should have to be in fear of that clown.

Clooney said it quite well.

Here, we’re talking about an actual country deciding what content we’re going to have. This affects not just movies, this affects every part of business that we have. That’s the truth. What happens if a newsroom decides to go with a story, and a country or an individual or corporation decides they don’t like it? Forget the hacking part of it. You have someone threaten to blow up buildings, and all of a sudden everybody has to bow down. Sony didn’t pull the movie because they were scared; they pulled the movie because all the theaters said they were not going to run it. And they said they were not going to run it because they talked to their lawyers and those lawyers said if somebody dies in one of these, then you’re going to be responsible.

Something violent happens attributable to North Korea? No. There's a zero in a million chance.

They paid Chinese actors to cheer for their football team during the 2010 World Cup, no reason they couldn't pay someone to start some kind of trouble at a showing of the movie. Small but not zero chance, IMO.

Finally caught Birdman tonight. If it wasn't for Boyhood, I'd say it would be a certainty for Best Picture. Keaton Has Best Actor locked away. Zach Galifianakis was surprisingly great with his performance. I had to do a double (triple) take to make sure it was him.

Funny story: me and my friends did a white elephant gift for christmas. Well, one guy got a shake weight and Birdman poster. His nickname is shake weight, and he sent us pics of Birdman since the beginning of last year. He's been stoked about the movie. Now, we have been on Twitter going berserk at Keaton for him to sign my buddies poster and shake weight. To you guys it's probably a dumv story, but to me it's hilarious.

Anyone catch inherent vice? A buddy is a huge fan of the director and his casts.

If Keaton follows through, you better keep up posted! He seems like the kind of guy I'd like to grab a drink with.

Hopefully catching it sometime before it leaves theaters. I love Paul Thomas Anderson. I honestly can't think of a truly bad movie that he has made.

I'm on a Best Picture nomination spree right now. Caught Whiplash tonight. Powerful relationships showing how far people will go for what they desire. J.K. Simmons a lock for Best Supporting Actor.

It's on my list. I'm a big PTA fan and also read the Thomas Pynchon novel it was adapted from. Based on the trailers and the reviews I've read it looks like they really captured the tone of the book, which is kind of like Coen Bros meets Elmore Leonard.

I finally watched Gone Girl this evening. Good movie.

I have to comment on how a few scenes were shot. I think they were in the home and in the lake house. I don't know if it's a certain camera or lens but it seems to want to make you feel like you are in the scene or holding the camera. It's hard to explain. I know the movie Purge with DiCaprio had most of the interior scenes shot this way also. I don't like it. I guess I like the feeling of being a detached observer and that style of shooting takes that detachment away. Anyone know what I'm talking about or am I just wacko? Okay, wacko is a given. Just curious what some others thought about it.

Just got back from american sniper, and well, I was disappointed. I expected a much better movie, but it didn't live up to its hype. The movie and book are vastly different, and I didn't like it. Acting was not good outside of Cooper and wife, cheesy scenes, and skipped over A LOT. Recommend everyone seeing it once, but I wouldn't go out and buy it.

6.5/10

American soldier movies are always super hyped up. You know, showing patriotism and what not. But I mean come on, rate the movie on the movie. All the recent war movies were nothing special really, Seal Team 6 or whatever and some others that I cant remember the names. The best war movie in a long time was Fury.
