Wait, I thought that if the number a #1 seed and a #2 seed were from the same conference, that they could not be matched up together. If so, how is OSt the number 2 in the IL region? Same goes for matching up Iowa and scUM.
Lunardi's a rebel

and I have no idea. I haven't seen anything that indicates they would do what he just did but 🤷‍♂️

I think Lunardi is just doing straight seeding here, without applying any of the special bracketing rules.

Correct, although it's interesting he still has OSU as the 5 overall rank - that would tell me there is some significant room there between us and them - if they beat us at home without Ayo in a close game it will be interesting if they move past us or not. Presuming Ayo is healthy for BTT and back for NCAA, that would impact committees views on seeding

P.s. if I could double like this I would. One for the info and another for showing a bracket with Michigan State as first four out.
Hopefully sparty and Duke both fall flat on their faces down the stretch here. You know the committee is just begging for reasons to get them in.

But we need to make sure both remain Q1 games.

There is no such rule. Here is the quote from the ncaa website.

"
Teams from the same conference shall not meet prior to the regional final if they played each other three or more times during the regular season and conference tournament.

Teams from the same conference shall not meet prior to the regional semifinals if they played each other twice during the regular season and conference tournament.

Teams from the same conference may play each other as early as the third round if they played no more than once during the regular season and conference tournament.

Any principle can be relaxed if two or more teams from the same conference are among the last four at-large teams selected to the field to participate in the First Four.

You just missed it. The paragraph directly above where you started quoting states it.

“Each of the top four teams selected from a conference shall be placed in different regions if they are seeded on the first four lines.”

From the NCAA website:

Each of the top four teams selected from a conference shall be placed in different regions if they are seeded on the first four lines.

So we should not be in a region with any of the other top 4 B10 teams. As has been stated, Lunardi most likely just listed his straight seeds ranking, not an actual bracket. If you look at ESPN's Bracketology page, it hasn't been updated since 2/26. I'd expect things to be arranged properly when it gets posted tomorrow.

[edit] oh I should have also noted my poor memory and reading comprehension. I've read this section twice in the last couple of days. still missed that line. smh.

No worries, I was having a similar discussion today and had to re-read it several times to make sure I understood. I didn't even realize these "principles" existed.

Gotta root for Baylor tonight against West Virginia.

West Virginia, OSU, and Alabama are the only teams that threaten our 1 seed IMO. Bama has to win out and win the SEC tourney.

Speaking of WV, found this 538 article about Huggins’ changes in style of play over the years, including adjustments made this year with the loss of Tschwiebe. It’s an interesting read.

Andy Katz’s predictions.

Interesting to see Loyola Chicago on the 8/9 line. Nobody seems to know what to make of them: #12 in KP, #16 in NET, but #41 in Sagarin. Everywhere from a 5 to a 12 seed in the Bracket Matrix. I doubt they're better than Purdue as KenPom would suggest, but still wouldn't want to see them in round 2...

Hard to know how good the best team is in a conference where 7 out of 11 teams have losing records.

We’re in control over our own destiny, yeah?

Even if we lose tonight, if we win @OSU, there’s a very good chance at a 1 seed.

If we lose both of the next two games, we’re unlikely to get the 1 seed, but very likely to still earn a 2 seed, especially if we win at least one game in the B1G tourney.

I like the way that feels.
