You are probably too young then to know about the University slush fund scandal that brought down football and basketball in 1966. Illini sports were scorched earth for along time (multiple decades) and some claim maybe even through today.
If a sixty year old is to young for this, it just may be time to let it go.

Michigan being in the big dance vs being out of the big dance on a single possession?
Well I think Michigan is not officially out yet. The committee would probably find a way to persuade themselves to select Michigan in. Same for UNC. If these teams are bubble teams, they will always get in.

I think it is interesting that MSU benefits by not having to make up their game against Minny. They didn’t have to cram games and compress their schedules. You can argue it affected us against IU and NW vs scUM

If MSU would have beaten Minny I am not sure how it would have affected tie breakers

With that said our seed is due to not beating O$U allowing NW to get 40 free throws in the first meeting and getting blown out by PSU twice

I think it’s hard to say they benefited. Yes, it’s hard to play four games in eight days. But having your game against 2-win MN cancelled is not a benefit. It’s one less win.
