Nope. Those two wins vs Texas and UCLA have been out only crutch. If the bubble wasn't so weak (I guess we can call it parity)....we'd already have been done.
This is why I hope the tournament doesn’t expand anymore or if it does limit the P5 teams. The bubble is so weak any worse would mean the regular season doesn’t matter at all to get in.

Gimme that 10 seed please, our odds of making a sweet sixteen increase dramatically vs the 9.
Let's just get in and let the chips fall where they may. If it wasn't for two furious, unlikely comebacks....we would have lost what....6 in a row? We have to win the first game before even contemplating the 2nd. When we start hoping for a worse seed to give us a better shot....that should tell us something. Let's just get in and win one before we contemplate two.

I agree with you 100%. We are the beneficiary this year because it's a very, very watered down field. Parity at it's finest. Is this NIL and portal related? Who knows. If we were a locked in 3 or 4 seed right now and we could puff our chests out a bit....I'd say that a quality mid major should get the nod. No expansion to get more teams in.

Well, the good news is that PSU will probably make the NCAA tourney. I didn’t want this Illini team to have a legacy that it lost 3 times in one season to a team that didn’t even make the NCAA tourney. i don’t think we hang a banner for that dubious achievement.

Now I am hoping for NW/PU final with NW winning. I don’t think any team with a 7’10” center who can dunk without jumping and who never fouls should be allowed to win the BIG tournament. Doesn’t sound fair to me.

can we opt to play just one half of the first game to get to round two ?

As a guy whose softball league puts 8 of 10 teams into the playoffs, I agree with you that more tournament expansion would almost invalidate the season. That's too many games just for seeding, imo.

Jerry Palm has us as a #10 seed playing #7 Creighton in his latest update, with the winner playing Texas. I could live with that. Could have also played #7 Kentucky in the battle of underachieving teams.

Edit: Lunardi is screwing us, though. Giving us a #9 seed against Arkansas with the winner playing Houston. Feels so weird to be rooting for a lower seed, lol.

Lunardi must hate us or at least enjoy screwing with our fans - putting us as a 9 against 8 Arkansas and then against 1 Houston. Aargh.

While I don't disagree with all the analytics, I am not sure I can stomach a Bruce Pearl loss to end this season.

last couple years, we dominated the big 10 with our style of play but did pretty poorly out of conference and showed in the tourney. this year is the opposite, other teams have optimized to win in the b10 while we optimized to play in March. at least we're trying something different this time....

that is what I tell myself...this is the only way to be optimistic about March madness. its madness for a reason..

If we get matched up with Creighton, we better kick their butts. They have an insufferable fanbase and i want to wear my swag around town without being accosted by a bunch of yuppies that watch basketball once every two months.

Lunardi's brackets are a joke. See my earlier post for much better sources.

The committee, is supposed to bias away from a 2nd round meeting between two teams that played in the non-conf, so we are unlikely to see Purdue, Texas, or UCLA in the second round.
