Also to the poster who said we have had incredible luck this year, Kenpom has us as the 285th luckiest team in college basketball this year

Maybe the guys needed a few more of these!!!:):)

Looking at potential matchups, I think I’d rather stay on the 8/9 line? It’s clear we struggle against really strong offensive teams, and have a decent chance against balanced or defensive teams

Likely 1 Seeds
Houston - Bad matchup
Kansas - Okay matchup
Alabama - Okay matchup
Purdue - Okay matchup

Potential 2 Seeds
UCLA - Okay matchup
Baylor - Bad matchup
Texas - Okay matchup
Arizona - Bad matchup
Gonzaga - Bad matchup
Marquette - Bad matchup

Funny that the first three 10 seeds are Illinois, Iowa, Penn State . . And scUM is nowhere near getting selected.

Seems pretty reasonable.
Will see how committee values Illini this year. 2 great wins, no bad losses. Nothing else really noteworthy.

Body of work and conference, etc. Also they could very well want the Kansas storyline
They should be smarter than counting on us to win the Round of 64 game though. :ROFLMAO:

But seriously, bring it on. At least we'd get to play Kansas potentially in Des Moines instead of trekking down to Birmingham, AL to play Alabama or Houston. I will be OK if we go down swinging in a competitive game with a blueblood. Bill Self is almost 20 years ago. (Edit: wow, I feel old)

On the other hand, I am not looking forward to all the negative hot takes if they lose to Kelvin Sampson and Houston again. The agitated old guys will be calling into the post-game show calling for Underwood to be fired.

Side note, I was thinking that if Iowa stays on the 8-9 line, they won't get sent to a pod with possible #1 Purdue, and surely they won't get sent to the Des Moines pod with #1 Kansas (right?), so they could be destined for Birmingham... again increasing the odds that a 9-seed Illinois goes to Des Moines.

I think it will be very tough to beat the 8th seed, let alone seeing KU, Saban or Houston in R2.

As of right now there are 3 or 4 potential bid stealing opportunities.

American
-Tulane or Cincinnati
Tulane plays Memphis (projected 9 seed) at 4:30 CT in the American Semi. Tulane losing to Houston 46-35 in 2nd half of the other Semi.

SEC
-Vanderbilt (although they are currently the 3rd team OUT on Bracketmatrix.com, so they could sneak in anyway).
Losing to Texas A&M (projected 6 seed) 49-25 at halftime of SEC Semi.

C-USA
-UAB
Plays FAU (projected 8 seed) at 7:30 CT in C-USA Final.

A-10
-Dayton/Fordham
Winner plays VCU in A-10 Final (VCU is currently projected just OUT if they don't get the Auto bid so this probably won't affect the at-large bids).

Not sure how luck is calculated but this year more than ever it felt like it wasn’t so much who you played but when you played them. By that metric we were certainly unlucky. @PSU, and our home game against Indiana not sure anyone would win those matchups. We play @OSU 2 weeks earlier and it’s probably a12-15 point win.

Let’s get healthy and rested and see what we can do.
