Seth Davis just said that not enough people are talking about Illinois missing the tournament due to the 2-11 quad 1 record. That has been my concern for days now.

Seth Davis on the A-10 halftime show already pimping the idea that Illinois shouldn't be in the tourney (referenced the gawd-awful Q1 record).

You simply cannot ignore that 2-11 quad one record. It's by far the worst of any other P5 school being considered.
Those two wins are perhaps better than anyone else's two wins.
And better for illinois to be 10/11 than 8/9.

We may not like it, but frankly he's right. We have zero quad 1 wins in the past 3 months. Only thing saving us is we really have no bad losses.
EDIT: Just noticed NC state is 1-6 in Q1 games, has 4 Q2 losses, and are on the bubble. We have better metrics than that.
Guys, we're getting in. But it'll likely be a 10 seed.
My take on our season/postseason is that we earned the situation that we're in. If we were a bubble team, we'd look at another team being 2-11 and ask how in the world could they have made it over us and I think that it's a completely reasonable question. The two wins that are propping our whole season up were in November/Early December. I think that we have real reason to be nervous.

Davis has always been a hack. Of course doesn’t quote the quad 2 record and the fact that we don’t have a Q3-4 loss.
No disagreement with being a 10 seed at this point but his insinuation that we should be worried is a bit crazy.

There a bubble teams that have only played a couple of q1 and are winless. Besides osu we have no other bad losses.
Q1 can be flawed if your conference does good in non con. B12 is best conference for sure but then the games are just are circlejerk of q1 games. Are all those teams super legit? Idk.

And OSU has insanely good metrics (for some reason). That loss was a Q1 loss...
The only Q2 loss we have I believe is the home loss to Penn State.
The one thing that we have going for us is that the bubble is SO bad this year that you can probably throw them all in a hat, pick the teams and not be wrong. It's truly a best of the worst situation.

I feel like the whole quadrant record is a bit trash, it doesn’t take into consideration where a team is at the time but rather evolves how a team continues to do throughout the season. Just because a few teams we beat sucked down the stretch, we shouldn’t necessarily be punished for that. Some teams peak or are playing better at certain times but there isn’t a way to quantify that.

Not sure I've ever seen a person call out one team like that. No one is talking about it because the bubble is weak this year and we had a winning record in one of the toughest conferences in the country. Seth Davis has always come off as an extreme hater against Illinois. Even when Illinois does well he it seems like it's a chore for him to give Illinois credit. It's like a 'do I have to?' kind of credit. Out of all the teams to pick on that's the hill you want to shout from?? Very weird.

He made an arse out of himself LAST YEAR when he guaranteed the Moc's would upset us .......And they almost did but he took it way to far......I might try to look it up and see how many times he has been an Illini hater.....seems like it's an annual event with him......
But that happens to everyone and works itself out. If some teams sucked at the end, other teams got better at the end and moved up. And we didn't beat those teams earlier in the season when they "sucked".
We could have beaten OSU on the road and gotten one. The rest of the conference seemingly did. We didn't need to move mountains to get more Q1 wins. We just didn't beat teams we could have.
Seth Davis probably picked Fairleigh Dickinson to upset us in 05.
