CFB Coaching Carousel 2016-17

No way do the domers pick up anybody else's leftovers. No chance.

Briles to LSU is a no-brainer, and he will challenge Saban. What he did at Baylor might have been the most shocking coaching job I can recall. (I'd say second was what Gary Barnett did at Northwestern) Baylor is a very uptight Baptist school. Put Briles at LSU in the SEC, he will go nuts.

Miles to Purdue. Exactly the kind of job he needs, and he is exactly the guy that Purdue needs. Glad we will have a year headstart on them.

Miles' firing is exactly why SEC schools never want to travel north to face Big Ten schools (or to the west coast to play Pac 12 schools). If LSU had stayed home and played Southern Whosit State instead of losing by 2 points to the now #8 team in the country, Miles would still have a job.

Do people really think Miles failed?

Failed is too strong of a word, sure. Miles was very successful there all things considered.

But when you're the next school, the question is what Les Miles are you getting NOW? And you look at the post-2011 Les Miles, the one on the wrong side of 60 without Gary Crowton and John Chavis anymore, and you're looking at a guy who really did under-perform with the kind of talent he was able to get at that program.

Combine that with the arrogance of these blue blood schools who probably think of LSU as their inferior, and it's just not likely to happen.

Based on that it sounds like the big 10 will land another high quality coach continue to improve as a conference

Maybe. Buts he's already getting 3/4 of this season as a break before next season. He might be rejuvenated.

Darrell Hazell out at Purdue

https://purdue.rivals.com/news/darrell-hazell-is-out-as-purdue-s-football-coach

After managing only a 9-33 record over three-plus seasons, Darrell Hazell is no longer Purdue’s head coach, GoldandBlack.com has learned. Hazell was fired Sunday, one day after Iowa dominated the Boilermakers 49-35 on Homecoming. Receivers coach Gerad Parker will be the interim coach. Parker is in his fourth season with the Boilermakers, coming on staff as tight ends coach before moving to coach the receivers last season.

Why would they fire Hazell now? They're 3-3. Pretty good for a rebuilding team. Their new AD must have a pretty good idea that he can land his guy. Fleck? Miles? Brohm? Venables? Taggert? Rhule?

Glad Lovie has a year head start on whomever they hire.

They're a total garbage fire and going nowhere. Everyone knows it. They made the move now because everyone seems to be getting the idea that the coaching carousel is going to move really early this year. We'll see if that turns out to be the case.

Surely Beckman is looking for a job? :D:):chief:

Maybe if we offered to pay half his salary??? :D

Was wondering the same thing. I think the score was closer than the game really was, but a head scratcher for sure.

Some strong names in your list.

This from ESPN's B1G writer Adam Rittenberg:

Some candidates to keep in mind for Purdue: Western Michigan's P.J. Fleck, Illinois State's Brock Spack (longtime Purdue assistant), Michigan offensive coordinator Tim Drevno, Ohio State offensive coordinator Ed Warinner and co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Tim Beck, New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, Indiana defensive coordinator Tom Allen, North Dakota State's Chris Klieman

And this from BTN's Tim Dienhart:

We'll see.

This feels like it might be the Matt Rhule landing spot to me for some reason. Which would be a nice hire for them.

If they were smart they'd go all in for Ken Niumatalolo, but they won't.

I wonder if Doug Marrone would be interested in that job?

I thought Ken N would be a great hire for the Illini. I think he does an outstanding job. Purdue would be lucky to ask him.

Hazell was dead man walking. Only reason he was still around was that his buyout was too big until this year. I can see two explanations for the timing:
1.) As somebody mentioned, wanted to get a jump on the musical chairs. Purdue is a decent opportunity with fairly recent success in Tiller. A lot of names on that list could do worse. And more cynically,
2.) We scared them my losing. They were counting on a horrible season, and we gave them some hope. Maybe the new AD decided he had to pull the plug now before they won another game and having to wait for the oaken bucket.
