So Lon Kruger doesn't count in your world?

And who are the successful coaches that stayed? Lou Henson. That's it. Mike White may have stayed, but he wasn't getting big offers because of his NCAA troubles.

"In my world", Lon Kruger left Illinois to coach the NBA's Atlanta Hawks, NOT to coach at another college. Successful coaches who stayed include Harry Combes and Ray Eliot, among others. (In addition to Mike White, Pete Elliott probably would have stayed if he hadn't been forced to resign because of the slush fund scandal.) As I posted, as far as I know only 3 successful coaches have ever left the Illini for another school. Unfortunately, the Illini have had very few successful coaches lately.

Our DB coach Paul Williams who is currently in south Florida with Lovie recruiting, is in play for the Delaware head coaching position.

Is it safe to say none of the assistant coaches are getting fired? I remember seeing on here a handful of weeks ago the expectation of a few assistants being let go (just rumors), but haven't seen anything.

It's a bit of a mystery. I would be dismayed if the same group is brought back, frankly. Another experienced ace recruiter or two is needed.

Jeff Brohm has been offered Purdue job, talked to Baylor yesterday, most likely means we will know today/tomorrow whether he is going to take Purdue job or maybe the Baylor interview went well.

Oregon has talked to Willie Taggart and Bryan Harsin. I do expect them to still want to talk to Fleck. I'm not sure how they do not talk to Dan Mullen as well, I think he is the best fit personally.

Cincinnati came open over the weekend with Tuberville resigning (forced resignation). Charlie Strong if he wants it probably is the best fit considering his success at Louisville; however, they'll try to talk to Fleck, Brohm (rumored to already be leader), and potentially Les Miles as he has lost some momentum in other searches.

Baylor appears to be centered around Sonny Dykes, Larry Fedora, Jeff Brohm, but they have done a pretty nice job keeping this one close to the vest. They seem to moving methodically and rightly so considering the negativity centered around their program.

Nevada: A bunch of people in play here but Andy Ludwig (Vandy OC) and Beau Baldwin (Eastern Washington HC) are the hot names at the moment. Still early here.

Houston: Lane Kiffin, Les Miles, and Lincoln Riley are candidates. Art Briles wants the job but I don't think that Houston is ready to hire him. Briles probably needs to clear his name before he gets another chance.

Georgia State: Andy McCollum (STC/LB Georgia Tech) and Chip Lindsay are the hot names but there are multiple people involved with this one.

FAU: How do you not talk with Kentucky OC Eddie Gran. Has recruited South Florida as well as anyone over the last 10-15 years with Auburn, Cincinnati, and now Kentucky. He was a highly successful special teams coordinator before turning the Cincinnati offense into one of the best in the country last year. He now has Kentucky in a bowl game this year as OC. I have heard that FAU AD wants someone with head coaching experience and Mario Cristobal (Alabama RC/TE/Asst. OL coach) is the leading candidate (FIU should have never fired him). Randy Shannon (former Miami head coach/current Florida LB coach) is in the mix as well.

You probably won't see any movement (unless a coach takes another job) until the dead period at the end of December. They are too valuable to get a head start on recruiting while most schools are still having to put their main resources into preparing for a bowl game. This is literally the only advantage to not playing in a bowl game.

no longer in OK! Centralia, IL
well, PU is certainly going to be scoring some points once Brohm gets going

Fun fact: Brohm probably would have been the MVP in the lone season of the XFL if he hadn't gotten hurt midway through the year.

Fun facts 2 & 3

Brohm was QB coach for Illini under Zook (and Paul Petrino) in 2010 and 2011.

Brohm was Garrick McGee's OC/QB coach in 2012 at UAB.

Oregon is such a weird job. I don't know what they will or should do.

Charlie Strong would be the home runs of home runs for Cincinnati considering he already killed it in that same area. I bet he takes a year off though.

I can't see Baylor attracting Fedora from UNC. I'd say the same about Dykes but he's closer to being in trouble than not. I guess their going with people from the area but don't know, I don't see this working out for Baylor if they go with Dykes.

As for Nevada, we've been hearing about Beau being a rising star for years now and it looks like he hasn't lost a step. Looks like a great choice. Only potential problem I see is he can be playing for the fcs championship on January 7th. Not sure how that would work out

Houston wants to play with the big boys and they have the money to do it. They're going to grab a bigger name than their Big 12 counterpart in Baylor. I don't think they can go wrong with Les Miles. Kiffin is still a flashy splash.

FAU should go after Cristobal but I hope he sticks it to them and takes another job elsewhere.

Brohm to Purdue is done per Twitter. Very solid hire for them, he would have been at the top of my list in the alternate universe where we just fired Cubit.

I think this is a really good hire for them. I would expect them to at least push past IU and challenge MD for the middle of the B1G East. I don't know that they can ever hope for much more in that division.

One interesting side note in regards to coaching changes and adding/subtracting on our own staff....in April, the NCAA votes to approve a 10th assistant for college football programs. This along with some other major changes such as an early signing period are expected to be passed (although the early signing period is the most unlikely). You are going to see some abnormally late assistant coaching changes in May and June this year for teams scrambling to add top tier assistants to their staff.

I think there is a good potential that with the recruiting starting to spark, the B1G West is going through a transition. I think in the next few years you'll see us challenging Wisky at the top, with Nebraska and Northwestern fading. I think Iowa will decline in Ferentz' final years and look out for Purdue and Brohm.
