The IU CFP win was a just one more piece of evidence we're living in the upside down version of reality. I think it flipped when the Cubs won it all in 2016.
I JUST sent my friend a message that said, "Indiana. INDIANA. Just went undefeated and won the national championship. In FOOTBALL! You can't convince me our universe didn't slip into some bizarro parallel universe sometime in the past several years. I'd guess when the 2016 Cubs vs Indians World Series game 7 went into extra innings. The Cubs then won the game and the World Series. That, and so many other weird things that have happened since, can ONLY be explained by us slipping into a bizarro universe."

It’s the most improbable sports thing any of us are gonna see in our lives.
The 1980 hockey team is the only comparable I can think of. And that was just a 2 week tournament. I can’t think of something quite like this in American team sports. I know in epl soccer Leicester City won the league like 10 years ago when they were 5000/1 pre season. I don’t know the details but know of th story.

By comparison, Indiana was 3 to 1 in November

As a side note on the game but wasn’t Beck’s body language just awful on the sideline. His expressions told me who looked beat most of the game.

Got to hand it the hoosiers. The coaching talent and acumen of Cig and that coaching staff seems to be flat out extraordinary.

Well, should also say it doesn't hurt to have a very very good QB1 start hitting on all cylinders and elevate to Heisman level performance.

also hate to see mark cuban in the middle of all of it wearing IU gear. he’s the type of donor that can set a program apart in the NIL era

What were Indiana's odds to EVER win a national championship three years ago? How many million to 1? We're talking winning lottery ticket odds.

Indiana endured a nation-leading 713 losses over 130-plus years of football before Cignetti arrived two years ago and turned that complete dumpster into a 16-0 national champion.

When the movie is made, we can attest to witnessing it.

So happy for Indiana, Hopefully the Illini can win the National Championship someday soon. But this is just an incredible accomplishment for Indiana considering where they were just 2-3 years ago and where they have been historically. Glad Lee Corso could see this!

We've got a little taste in what Cignetti has done with Indiana football right now. With Wagler we found a hidden gem that is crucial to our basketball success right now. Cignetti is apparently the master of evaluating and finding those types of players and also coaching them up to their absolute potential and creating the results we have seen. Its amazing to see what he has accomplished in such a short time. By the way I really think that Keaton was not expected to be the major impact player he has turned out to be. We got lucky on a kid that basically no one else had much interest in.

This isn’t even close to correct. Indiana had a greater than 1% chance to win a championship in the next 50 years much less in “forever”. By comparison, approximately 30 teams have a greater than 1% to win CFP just next year.

If you are passing out 1M to 1 odds (much less several million to 1 odds) on P4 teams (much less P2 teams) to win a CFP championship in forever then I’ll take all you will give me.

Illinois connection on the IU staff.
Coached the winner of Heisman trophy and QB of natty is a pretty good resume for Chandler Whitmer (redshirt QB 2010).

And to think this was their attention to detail a few years ago. Kudos to the Hoosiers.

Hot take: Is this really that improbable in the NIL era? They have a top 30 (maybe higher) paid roster in the country and are being funded by a billionaire and their large alumni base. Cignetti is still a hell of a coach so props to him but I find George Mason or Loyola making the Final Four more improbable. In fact, the next mid-major to go on a run against rosters getting paid millions might be even more improbable.
