Really, really good football player.

Odd duck.

I don't want to admit that IU will end up with an all-time football team. And I really don't want to admit that I'm incredibly jealous of their success (over 2 years). Don't get me wrong, I LOVE what Bret has done for our program...but why does it have to be IU? I can hear their fans arrogance already...

hard not to be jealous. as a fan you’d probably sign up for their past two years of success even if it meant they stink for the rest of time

I haven’t watched many IU games this year but teams seem to self implode vs them

Oregon was able to move the ball even without their top two RB’s but Oregon seemed to completely give the game away - the pick 6, two sack fumbles deep in their own territory, the blocked punt inside their 5 yard line etc. They handed IU 28 points! Give IU credit for forcing some of that, but if Oregon just plays sound football that is a completely different game

I don’t get that at all. I think he’s destined to be a Senator or higher after his NFL career is done. I love the way he talks. His energy is infectious. He’s charismatic and genuine. Wears his faith on his sleeve which I love. If my daughter brought him home I’d die a happy man. When I see a young man like that, it gives me hope for the younger generation. His family did a 150% excellent job in raising him. This guy deserves success. That’s how you carry yourself if you are a D1 athlete.

I'm not saying hes a bad guy but he said synergy at least 5 times during interviews last night and his only social media is LinkedIn.

I personally see this differently. Every time I hear Mendoza speak, I keep thinking every answer is exactly what “Interviewing for Dummies” says is the answer to that question.

He just seems stiff and rehearsed. I get that’s way better than what we see a lot, but he still seems kind of forced.

But again, very good football player.

Mendoza's testimony is powerful much like Luke's testimony. We need more of it. Mom and dad have to be proud of their two sons. Much like what Easton Baker is doing with his life. Even though I don't agree with Mormon beliefs. I am sure there are other players on IU that have a similar testimony but don't get the microphone.

Not only that, but IU had a couple fumbles that they recovered serendipitously - like Mendoza had a fumble that bounced right back into his arms. I think the TV guys said IU only has 1 lost fumble on the SEASON. Their opponents implode and they seem to have bottomless good fortune in addition to being really really good

Edit: they actually have 3 lost on 9 fumbles but still that ratio is something

if they win the championship and with how things are going in politics, he could become an elected official next year in indiana if he wanted. i’m sure he’s entering (entered?) demigod status for indiana residents

They could lose cause it’s a game played with an odd shaped ball by human beings Mistakes can happen. That said I’m thinking you are 100% accurate and will put a little $ on said outcome before it happens.

Crazy thing yesterday is the line moved from IU -3.5 to IU -3.0. So some people thought Oregon was gonna either beat em or play em close. Not it. I saw that first game and IU won by 10 in Eugene and it really wasn’t that close. Mendoza threw a second half pick six otherwise it’s a 17 point game. And Oregon never really got close to cutting it to less than 10 in the 4th

That was the game where I said IU is for sure the best team.
unfortunately the highest alternate spread i could find for last night was IU -17.5 at +503. would have taken a flier on -30 if i could have found it. IU -22.5 against Miami is only +424

I have watched IU play a lot this year. These things happen mostly because their defensive front spends a lot of time in the opposing backfield. Either someone is virtually unblocked for a free shot at the QB or RB or they push the OL into backfield. That will generate turnovers.

Personally I think it's great. A former cupcake is rising up and not just beating bluebloods but humiliating them. Yes it's IU and it would so much more delicious if it was Tulane or somebody like that. But damn, the look on Bama fans faces while their team was being slaughtered was priceless. So I hope IU goes into the Orange Bowl and beats Miami into submission on their home field.

This year's winner of the "Being in the right place at the right time" contest goes to the IU center, Coogan.
This is his second CFP Championship game in a row as he played at Notre Dame in last year's CFP game.
I can just see it next year as he transfers to Purdue to make it clean sweep of the state. It can happen.

My only social media is LinkedIn. And I only ever use it once in a blue moon. ;)

Agreed, however, on the use, let alone repetition, of "synergy."

The kid's earnest, a young man of strong faith, and intelligent (he's apparently an ace finance student at IU's well-regarded Kelly MBA program.) Got nothing but love for him. I hope they obliterate Miami.

Yeah, hard agree that his only social media being LinkedIn is a plus in my book. The more people stay off the usual social media stalwarts (FB, IG, and the Twitter), the better off you are.

Apologies to Dan for sullying a family-oriented site, but this is too good not to share. I've done my best to make it as presentable as possible. Easiest to grasp quickly for those of us who are a certain age.
