I was at this game and remember this vividlyFYI:
Not happening. We got Chester. Bring back Dee and Roger and we good.
Harry Combes played basketball at Ilinois and was coach for 20 years until 1967...do you still remember Lou Henson???I love this, add Roger and we have a major future maybe even a future HC for the Illini who was an Illini? I am 60 I donāt remember that ever, maybe Doug Mills 75 years ago?
This is for anyone not real familiar with Chester. Pretty well dogged by a lot of fans first 3 years. Senior season led one of Illinois's grittiest teams to a 24-10, 11-7 season, 5 seed. Nice team but had no business being this good except for Chester and Trent Meacham. One of my all time favorite teams. This is a copy/paste of an article written by Paul Klee. Kind of long, but well worth the read if you want to know Chester a bit. Enjoy! What has Chester Frazier done or what is he known for at this moment in coaching other than being an alum? Maybe we want to work that area? But man, I have to say that this is looks like a step down from either of the two coaches we lost.
That was such a great article. It's still online here btw... read it last night. Did not remember Jamar came to him for help after the wreck with Carlwell. This is for anyone not real familiar with Chester. Pretty well dogged by a lot of fans first 3 years. To me the last part of your post is what separates him from OA and Chin. All great coaches, but Chester bleeds orange and blue. Was looking on the Virginia Tech forum thread (https://247sports.com/college/virginia-tech/board/59428/Contents/chester-frazier--165014683/?page=1). Chester Frazier definitely left a good impression there. It's kind of funny, you could change the school names, they were having the exact same discussion we were about losing assistant coaches. Of course, and I realize it just happened, their thread is only four pages long compared to the hundred plus pages over two threads on ours. Frazier is a great hire. He has a great defensive mind as a coach, and a passion for the school.
... something, something, we want coaches that want to be Illini, something, something...I'd happily trade both Chin and Antigua for Chester Frazier!
I-L-L...
I think Illinois can be a bit of a tough sell vs some of the other schools, mostly in regard to the college town and proximity to bigger cities. His absolute belief in UI and his apparent undying loyalty will be a huge strength with recruiting, happy to have him back. Helluva leader and competitor, probably HC material reallll soon.To me the last part of your post is what separates him from OA and Chin. All great coaches, but Chester bleeds orange and blue.
Not sure I want it to happen. Seems like they would all have the same voice. Not happening.
You mean for Chester Frazier and a coach to be named later.I'd happily trade both Chin and Antigua for Chester Frazier!
This deal keeps getting better!!!You mean for Chester Frazier and a coach to be named later.
Okay, so who IS that coach to be named later? This deal keeps getting better!!!

Like to hear that. Likely connections out East. Some smoke around UConn's Kimani Young.

Just to chime in I always hated that expression. It smacks of either anti-intellectualism or an excuse to marginalize teachers to justify underpaying them.Yep my Dad used to say that all the time and I'd think to myself, "or they become a friggin' knowitall critic like you Dad." Never said it to his face because he like to punch me.
I think Chet is young enough that he can SHOW our guards all kinds of good stuff.
"No, THIS is the way you do it. Drive to the basket and score like this, it'll work better with you because you are taller than me." etc. etc.
"what? you're complaining about a stupid treadmill? Jeeeshh"
