Welcome to another year of Bear's football.
Let's see if these guys can string together some victories and get this storied franchise back in title contention.

Always liked Forte. Couldn't have asked for more than what he gave to the team and organization. I wish him the best.

Yeah, I would love to see him sign with NE and get a ring.

Pretty sad about this, I first really got into the Bears and football his Rookie year. He was our main guy for so long, will feel odd without him.

He'll be a Hall of Famer imo.

Stinks to see Forte go but as a 30 year old NFL RB his days were likely numbered anyway. The Bears must have a lot of faith in Langford and Carey to let Forte go. Carey's gonna need to improve his blitz pickup between now and next season to last much longer in Chicago. Aside from getting defense and O-line help, this likely frees up money for the Bears to re-sign Jeffrey.

I wouldn't say "no chance" - but I believe it is quite slim.

LOL...you're kidding right?

These are the modern day RB in the HoF...why do you think Forte belongs in this group? He has had a very good career, but unless he has a few more 1,000 yard seasons in him I don't think there's really any debate he's a "no". I mean people are debating Terrell Owens in the HoF. For a recent example on this list look to Curtis Martin. Forte is 36 total TD and 5,500 rushing yards behind him.

Marcus Allen (RB) 1982-1997
Jerome Bettis 1993-2005
Jim Brown (FB) 1957-1965
Earl Campbell (RB) 1978-1985
Larry Csonka (FB) 1968-1979
Eric Dickerson (RB) 1983-1993
Tony Dorsett (RB) 1977-1988
Marshall Faulk (RB) 1994-2005
Frank Gifford (HB-FL) 1952-1960, 1962-1964
Franco Harris (RB) 1972-1984
Paul Hornung (HB) 1957-1962, 1964-1966
John Henry Johnson (FB) 1954-1966
Leroy Kelly (RB) 1964-1973
Floyd Little (RB) 1967-1975
Curtis Martin (RB) 1995-2005
Ollie Matson (HB) 1952, 1954-1966
Hugh McElhenny (HB) 1952-1964
Lenny Moore (HB) 1956-1967
Marion Motley (FB) 1946-1953, 1955
Walter Payton (RB) 1975-1987
Joe Perry (FB) 1948-1963
John Riggins (RB) 1971-1979, 1981-1985
Barry Sanders (RB) 1989-1998
Gale Sayers (HB) 1965-1971
O.J. Simpson (RB) 1969-1979
Emmitt Smith 1990-2004
Jim Taylor (FB) 1958-1967
Thurman Thomas 1988-2000
Charley Trippi (HB) 1947-1955
Doak Walker (HB) 1950-1955

But how many receiving yards and receiving td's is he ahead of all of them? And yes, I do believe he's still got a few more good seasons in him to add to his totals.

You hit the nail on the head BS217. Matt is a very strong receiving back and extra blocker in pass protection. If you count his total yards, rushing and passing he has a total of 12,718 and 64 tds. Curtis Martin has 17,430 total yards and 100 tds, but played four more seasons than Matt has so far. The averages speak the loudest in support of Matt's hof resume.
Forte yearly avg 1590 yards and 8 td.
Martin yearly avg 1453 yards and 8 td.

Marshall Faulk played 13 seasons and totaled 19154 yds (1473/year) and 136 tds (10/year). He is a better comp for Matt as he was also a good receiving back, just not as good as Matt.

I think he could be a good fit with the Cowboys.

Matt Forte is better than Marshall Faulk in what world?

Agree to disagree I guess, but Matt Forte will not be in the HOF.

Might be worth noting what Forte was able to do for several years behind the worst or one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. He would probably have even greater numbers had he had better lines during a few of his prime years.

I guess it's over then. No more debate. ChicagoChief decides who does and doesn't get inducted into the HOF. Sorry Matt.

With 3 very good years or 4 good years, Forte will be a very serious HOF contender. That's a ways to go and a lot can happen but he is on track.

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/yds_from_scrimmage_career.htm

HOF voters don't really care about all-purpose yards. If they did, Tiki Barber and Warrick Dunn would be serious HOF candidates. They're not. A HOF finalist is more in vein of a Terrell Davis: more career TDs than Forte, more pro bowls, two rings, SB MVP, NFL NVP, 3 season rushing titles, 2000 yard rushing season ... and he did all that in basically four healthy years. Unfortunately, being the league's most productive safety valve dump-off target for a decade doesn't get you the hardware for your trophy case to move the needle in the HOF competition.

Also, Forte is not adding huge numbers from this point forward. He has a window to go somewhere and be a very important role player/part of a committee, but that gets him maybe 10-12 touches a game. The league is rapidly moving away from workhorse, 3-down backs, especially ones north of 30. It remains to be seen if even Adrian Peterson can pull that off, and he's the most dominate RB of this generation by a wide margin.
