Foreman being a healthy scratch the first few weeks will never make sense.

This line can run block wear teams down with the power run game then set up play action and the RPOs. It really isn't that complicated. But I guess it doesn't get Getsy the offensive genius tag for his next job search.

Bears beat the Raiders 30-12. First home victory Bears have had since Week 3 last season vs. the Texans.

Before today, a lot of people were saying, 'Why didn't the Bears go and get a good backup quarterback?'

Well, based on what we saw today... it looks like the Bears HAVE a good backup quarterback.

And not only that... they might just have THEIR Quarterback?

There are some great players in the lower levels of College Ball that don't get noticed or don't get a real chance. A day like today shows that a guy can come out of a small school and lead an NFL team to victory and look good doing it. Lots of highly drafted college quarterbacks never can do that.

Herbert was the starter and Roschon showed more in the preseason. Not that surprising to be honest.
We are blessed with good depth at rb position...till we weren't...lol..other rb we picked up from the dolphins has been a big help also...funny what getting most of your anticipated OF line healthy means...

Probably part of the reason he looked so good today. Everyone else is beat up by this tIme of year, and they just took him out of the package. He’s still god that new season smell.

Hard to glean too much from Bagent’s performance in that game since the running game was so dominant. What he did was impressive, if not spectacular. He passes the eye test to me as someone who looks like an NFL QB. Hard to see how he can become the man in Chicago long term however. If they do decide to move on from Fields, there is no way he can show them enough to not take a QB in next years draft, can he? Then he gets to compete with Williams or Maye or someone else?

If the Bears plan to move on from Fields is Bagent, queue up at least another bad to really bad year. Bears confirmed they have pretty decent backup QB yesterday. I don’t think they found themselves a QB1 viable option — at least not after just one game. He helped beat a mediocre team that was also playing a backup QB. And he rarely threw the ball more than 10 yards in the air. Man that sounds like a lot of unsuccessful Bears QBs over last 60 years.

Ken Anderson says thanks for acknowledging us small school guys. ( I'm old, look him up kids.)

They are screwing up their draft.
The Panthers are ensuring they don't screw it up too bad.

Bagent looked competent. A sort of Brock Purdy/JimmyG style of quick short throws worked for him. Not sure he has the arm to be a long-term answer, but having a backup that can give you a chance to win a game is huge. Good for him.

Jaylon Johnson's return has been huge for the defense, although Brain Hoyer behind center probably helped a lot.

Foreman played his tail off & was MVP of the game.

They are screwing up their draft.
Bears got some help with NE, Denver and NYG all winning. Biggest game of the year for Bears will be against Carolina. Need to beat the Panthers because Arizona’s most winnable game left might be against the Bears. Love to avoid a coin toss for first pick. Too many bad memories of Magic Johnson vs David Greenwood. Though as I pointed out to a friend recently, if Bulls got Magic likely wouldn’t have been bad enough to get MJ. So worked out just fine.

Not only do great smaller school players get overlooked by scouts and the pro powers-that-be... but also the priorities of the smaller school guys leads them more directly into their chosen professional careers directly out of college rather than taking a sabbatical in the pros (if they ever got a chance there). The smaller-school guys are much more honestly interested in Education than most of the big-name guys who are just bidding their time until they get to the pros.

The State of Illinois has a smaller-school powerhouse in North Central College in Naperville. They recently won a National Championship and knocked off a powerful Texas college that had dominated that level of ball for years (from Belton, Texas north of Austin).

Love to avoid a coin toss for first pick.

No coin toss in the NFL, that changed a few years back. There are now a series of tiebreakers in place starting with reverse strength-of-schedule (worst SOS picks first). And that's good, since the Cardinals have a much tougher schedule than the Panthers. Per tankathon.com, here is the current draft order, with SOS based on W-L records of all 17 opponents:

Both the Panthers and Bears line up well, though the NFC Central and AFC West opponents will be the biggest threats to our draft order. Honestly, I see the Bears winning 5-6 games since they have a favorable schedule and seem to be trending upward. And it might be hard to rely on the Panthers to keep losing, as they have no reason to tank. Lots of 2-win teams... Minnesota should pop up to #4 after tonight.

Bagent looked competent.

For years to come, lots of people will remember this game. Not because two great teams played but because of this one young man. And what he did.

No, I'm not putting him right into the HOF. But before Sunday, hardly anyone would have expected such a result from such an unknown QB. Maybe only he and his family.

He was an eye-opener for smaller school players (and the NFL) about what can happen if they have the talent and desire to make it happen (and they get a real chance from an NFL club). He showed more poise and moxie and achieved more success in four quarters of football than many guys had in their entire careers.

Smart small-school programs will hang Bagent posters in the locker and training rooms to show that this kind of this can and DID HAPPEN. And could happen again. Bagent will serve as an inspiration. Regardless of anything he does in the future... he has made a major contribution to the aura around the NFL and small college football.

Same conference that Ken came out of years ago when they dominated that level of ball. Augustana college.

You can’t complete ‘em if you don’t throw ‘em. Clearly the game plan was to get the ball out quick and avoid negative plays. Once they saw the running game was very effective there was no need to throw the ball downfield. This weekend should be a different story.

I guess your point and mine are the same. Either Fields is the guy or if he isn’t you take a first round QB and Bagent has a difficult path to snaps. His only chance is if the powers that be have moved on from Fields enough to give him a chance to show he can or can’t over 5 or 6 games.

I hope the kid does great. He followed the game plan and got the Bears a win. I’m just not ready to make him the poster boy for D2 football as one poster on here literally suggested. Me, I’d probably go with arguably the best WR in football or if you want an UDFA, a two-time all-pro NFL record holding WR for that honor.

Bagent has a strong chance to have another good game this week as LAC’s defense is worse than the Raiders’. They do have a competent QB though, so Bears might have to open things up a bit more to keep pace. Let’s hope Bagent can have success if called upon to do that.

Granted it was his first game, but I worry the final drive of first half might have told us a lot about his upside. How many teams with a competent QB would have been so “vanilla” with 1:47 on the clock and I believe 3 timeouts left? Not saying that was the wrong move as nothing in first half indicated Bagent could mount a successful 80 yard drive in that amount of time. Just too reminiscent of too many end of half Bears drives of the past with their mediocre QB play. But hopefully Bagent builds on his first game and shows us more this week.
