Chicago Cubs 2016 Season

I was fully aware going into this season that Jason wasn't getting 185 million to be a slugger but to have absolutely 0 doubts that he wasn't getting a hit in that situation is something I can't explain.

Heyward has been a spectacular defensive player and above average offensive player for his entire career. He's having problems with his swing this year, likely due to an early season wrist injury. This isn't the player we'll be seeing over the course of the remaining contract.

To preface this, I know you said you cannot root Chapman because of the person he is. My point is for all the fans justifying this, but ripping Cardinal fans for supporting Oscar. You're in the same boat as those cardinal fans now. You can't have both ways

True statement.

Rooting for a team does not mean that you endorse all actions of everyone on that team.
Charles Barkley said it best, "I am not a role model".

Chapman on the mound wouldn't take the shine of a World Series win away from me as a fan. I wouldn't be happy that he doesn't seem to make good choices, but other members of the team will have contributed more to get us to that win than he did.

Now, if I have a choice as to who I want to see on the mound closing out the world series it would be Kyle Hendricks in a complete game. He has earned it so far this year and really kept us afloat when we basically sucked in the weeks leading up to the ASB. I think that would be awesome. (Although I'm not sure if he has the endurance for a complete game...)

I couldn't care less if Chapman is an A-hole, as long as he doesn't cause trouble in the clubhouse and helps the Cubs win games. For everyone on here complaining about him you will probably only have to suffer for another three months.

You can be happy about the arm, but not the person behind it.

I really do hope he does help the Cubs win games, but that doesn't mean I can't feel a little cognitive dissonance towards him.

Let's have a real discussion about social engineering. Do you have any idea how much of our money is spent feeding, housing, job training and expungement of convicted felons? At least this guy is paying his own way.

Those trying to root for Chapman despite his being a garbage human (or those trying to convince themselves he's not a garbage human) should probably avoid his quotes today.

Thanks for the link. This doesn't bother me much. He apologized publicly for the incident. I provided the link. He essentially blew off this reporter's question.

I understand, but strongly disagree with why this doesn't bother you.

To me this doesn't show much sign of personal progress since the incident in question. Simply saying "sorry" doesn't prove remorse or a commitment to change. That comment doesn't give the feel that he is taking the Cubs' expectations/requirements of him seriously.

There is nothing this man can do to ever get in your good graces.

How is that not totally unacceptable in this context?
Did the Cubs organization come out and say that there actually was a conversation about off-the-field expectations? The tweet and subsequent answer don't really suggest they did.

Yes. It was confirmed many times over. I'm fairly sure the deal was contingent on this very conversation, in fact.

Theo and brass knew these were going to be murky waters from an ethical standpoint. The organization and fan base were not going to be resolutely supportive of such a move (see: this thread). What does it say to the women of your fan base when you prioritize winning over domestic violence? Of course he got ahead of it from a PR standpoint.

And then Chapman brushed the whole thing off as if it's no big deal. That's not morally suspect to you?

It sounds like Aroldis has days where he doesn't like answering questions through an interpreter. We'll learn more about this guy as time goes on.

I gotta admit, though... I thought - just for a minute - that maybe Epstein had one pulled over on him by an interpreter.

Maybe he doesn't need an interpreter to talk with Gomez.

Thanks for link and no, it doesn't bother me. See Marshawn Lynch.

Good article. You never truly know if a person learned from mistakes but at least he seems to be talking the talk.

Now he needs to walk the walk.
