Dang...he was a key part of a dangerous lineup and what was supposed to be a World Series run this year. I feel bad for him. I'm sure he wanted to be a part of what could be special this year. Hopefully it still will be...3 games in and we already have a guy out for the season...ugh...the injury bug affects any Illinois team.

Who will be stepping up to replace him?

Have to think Soler's gonna get a lot more time this year with Schwarber out.

The injury is going to make trading for a starting pitcher a lot more difficult.

A top of the line SP like Sonny Gray / Carlos Carrasco / Danny Salazar type, definitely. But the farm is still strong enough to net someone to solidify the middle-back end of the rotation.

Like you said, it won't be as easy, but I think it can be done.

I don't have much room to complain compared to some of you guys. I have cable. I have all the channels that carry the games. I'm not subject to blackouts.

Still, the first 10 or 12 Cubs games are being carried on 5 different channels. That's ridiculous. Hopefully much of this will be sorted out when the CSN contract expires, and all the games that aren't on national broadcasts will be broadcast in the same place.

Should be their own network once the CSN contract is up.

I'm on the West coast, and WGN does not show any of the Cubs games listed as being on that station. Also Dish apparently blocks all MLB games not on ESPN or the major networks. Anyone have this or understand it?

WGN only broadcasts the Cubs games locally, now. They have to show alternative programming elsewhere. This is due to some changes in MLB broadcast rules designed to eliminate "superstations" broadcasting one team nationally. TBS doesn't do the Braves nationally anymore, nor does WOR do the Mets for the same reasons. In Illinois, outside of Chicago, local affiliates pick up many of the games. Outside of the local market, you're probably out of luck without the MLB subscription service.

Similarly, the games on Comcast are blocked out on Dish if you're out of market, unless you subscribe to their extra sports package.

The whole thing is designed by baseball to make sure that the only team you can follow is the local team, but it's really fan unfriendly. Also the lines drawn as to what team is considered in market or out are really arbitrary and weird, with Cubs games blacked out in Iowa in favor of Twins games, for example.

Fantastic first week, despite taking a hit from the injury bug. It's really a positive that we've been able to pile on insurance runs in many games so that the starters don't have to tax their arms early in the year. Hope to see that trend continue throughout the regular season.

The bullpen has only given up 2 earned runs in 17 innings pitched.

It sure is easier when you've only had to pitch 17 innings in 7 games! And that's been at no more than 3 innings per game, too.

The walks. My god, the walks.

Added 10 more to their league leading 38 tonight. Soler looks to be adjusting to the cold this April. He's an important piece given the Schwarber injury.

I'm having a lot of fun watching this team. Baez is on track to return soon, too.
