Chicago Cubs 2017 Season

With Contreras' injury yesterday, the Cubs are going to be in for a battle with the Cardinals and Brewers 1.5 games back and the Pirtates only 3.5.

It really makes me grateful for the lack of injuries they faces during the 2016 season, with the lone major exception of Schwarber.

I wonder if David Ross is available?

I'm not sure he'd leave his internship position for this...

Baez is so fun to watch. He missed a low and away slider by a foot on one pitch. And then destroyed a hanging breaking ball 460+ feet on the very next pitch.

Ten seconds before he hit that home run, I was wondering how he ever gets the bat on the ball.

Sometimes fun. Sometimes excruciating.

Lester with a beautiful 1st and disastrous 2nd. Leaves with the trainer after giving up 8.

At least the wind is blowing out.

Now it's just a matter of which team's bullpen is worse.

I really scratch my head sometimes over Maddon's usage of middle relievers. We fight all the way back from 9-0 today to bring in Grimm in the 7th in a tie game? Talk about deflating.

Wow, BU. That is an all-time terrible rendition of Take Me Out To The Ballgame.

Didn't know the lyrics and couldn't carry a tune to save his life...

Justin Grimm has set the bar with 2 runs.

I've really questioned Maddon's decision-making these past few weeks.

Yup, he has done the same thing recently with Carl Edwards Jr. when he was CLEARLY struggling. Don't bring these arms into the game in high leverage situations if you don't have to! I would rather see him think outside the box and bring Wade Davis in than let Grimm/Edwards take over in a tie ballgame late.

Exactly. Strop is having a great year. Ditto Brian Duensing is having a great season, yet I feel like I never see him in those situations.

I also agree with your assessment of the Underwood 7th inning stretch. Woof, that was bad.

Wilson has been dreadful in Chicago, too. Two batters faced today in the 8th: 2 walks, 8 pitches.

Really hoping he doesn't turn into Adam Warren redux.
