I don't care if I ever see Luke Farrell in a Cubs uniform again.

No. This team is horrible defensively, and Schwarber is a big part of that.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but I'm getting the impression this is a kneejerk response to two noticeable bad plays in the OF in a series sweep by the division rival Cardinals.

A reverse argument could be made that the quality defense of Rizzo and Russell is not worth their lackluster bats to start the season.

In short, I know emotions are high, but the season is young. I'm going to sit and reap the balancing rewards that only a 162 game season can provide. In fact, at this time last year the Cubs had the exact same record of 16-15.

Rough series against the cards. Had the game won each of the last 2 and couldn’t close it out.

Disheartening, to say the least.

While those two plays were somewhat shocking to see at the major league level, just listen to the reporters that cover the Cubs on a daily basis and they are saying the same thing. It's not that I want him to fail. But is seems that he has actually regressed in left. He's not the only guilty party. Russell hasn't been stellar. He had a particularly bad play on Saturday that somehow was charged to Rizzo as an error. When Happ was in center for the first two weeks of the season there were at least three balls that dropped in for hits that a decent center fielder would have caught. Baez has also had some lapses on some easy plays. And Hayward has had an unusually tough time in left. When the offense is struggling you can't afford to be playing bad defense. The first two game of this past weekend's series were complete give-aways.

Schwarber has an OPS of .925, which is ~ .270 points higher than Jason Heyward. Heyward, a guy in the lineup solely for his defense, has been average at best this season and cost us yesterday's game. I'm much more concerned with Heyward's lack of defense than Schwarber's at this point.

This.

If Heyward is gonna be losing balls in the lights on the reg, then he's the one that can't be out there.

If this team hasn’t changed one bit from last year, then we’re looking at 92 wins and a playoff appearance against an NL field that doesn’t have a single team as good as either last years’ Dodgers or Nats.

Cards came in hot. Cubs came in cold. That sucks. Move on. 131 games left in the season.

Kind of fun to look at Kerry Woods magical outing 20 years later. Hard to believe it's been that long. I remember watching it quite well from my dorm room at PAR.

Guy had a Hall of Fame first third to his career. I believe he still holds the record for fastest to 1,000 Ks. Wonder if he came up today whether teams have advanced enough that he would have had a more prolonged career.

I've always thought that the grounder that hit off of Kevin Orie's glove should have been ruled an error, but there is a lot of disagreement about that. That game could have easily been a no-hitter as well. I'll never forget one at-bat that someone on the Astros had when Wood threw a curve that was heading right at him, he buckled and turned his head around and the ball curved right over the middle of the plate. He just looked back at the umpire and Sandy Martinez who was catching and laughed.

Darvish to the 10 day DL with the flu, retroactive to Friday. No word on corresponding move for who will start tomorrow. Darvish would be able to be activated for the makeup game vs. the Braves next Monday.

Tseng up to replace Darvish.

Heyward to the 7-day concussion DL.

INF David Bote (new name for me) and LHP Zastryzny up from AAA.

Comeback!

Great baserunning by Bryant and Edwards Jr. has just been filthy this year.

Roster moves: Tseng and Zastrysny down to AAA, RHP Justin Hancock (unfamiliar name to me) and OF Zagunis up to the big league squad.

Quintana on the bump for the hopeful sweep this afternoon!

Bote was called up when Bryant missed the week due to his concussion. Had a pig pinch-hit double last night.

Bote and Zagunis are the only young position players with possible MLB futures at Iowa and they’ve both been brought up for cups of coffee so far.

On the other hand, Iowa has 6 or 8 pitchers between age 23 and 27 with MLB potential, and Zastryzny is the only one they’ve brought up so far.

a good long time client and friend of mine is the owner and CEO of a Chicago based company who is a MAJOR CUBS sponsor. He gave me 4 tix to last nights game in section 24, which is just to the east of true home plate.

While it is a major PIA to get to Wrigley from south east DuPage , we got there at 7:10 and enjoyed the game , despite the rocky start.

We need to get on a couple 8-2 stretches and get ourselves a 2-3 game lead . I feel like KB & AR are about to wake up and start hitting 2 or 3 a week for a few weeks. The 5, 6, 7 run games are here again.

Man, I can't believe the Sox have won nine games. That is one horrible team that plays sloppy ball.
