That's not enough for what he is giving up on defense.
It is, actually.

Top 30 in the MLB in OPS isn't good enough? Defensive metrics are hard to gauge, but comparatively to other LF, he's as you're making him out to be.

No. This team is horrible defensively, and Schwarber is a big part of that.
Rough series against the cards. Had the game won each of the last 2 and couldn’t close it out.
While those two plays were somewhat shocking to see at the major league level, just listen to the reporters that cover the Cubs on a daily basis and they are saying the same thing. It's not that I want him to fail. But is seems that he has actually regressed in left. He's not the only guilty party. Russell hasn't been stellar. He had a particularly bad play on Saturday that somehow was charged to Rizzo as an error. When Happ was in center for the first two weeks of the season there were at least three balls that dropped in for hits that a decent center fielder would have caught. Baez has also had some lapses on some easy plays. And Hayward has had an unusually tough time in left. When the offense is struggling you can't afford to be playing bad defense. The first two game of this past weekend's series were complete give-aways.I understand the point you are trying to make, but I'm getting the impression this is a kneejerk response to two noticeable bad plays in the OF in a series sweep by the division rival Cardinals.
A reverse argument could be made that the quality defense of Rizzo and Russell is not worth their lackluster bats to start the season.
In short, I know emotions are high, but the season is young. I'm going to sit and reap the balancing rewards that only a 162 game season can provide. In fact, at this time last year the Cubs had the exact same record of 16-15.
Disheartening, to say the least.
Schwarber has an OPS of .925, which is ~ .270 points higher than Jason Heyward. Heyward, a guy in the lineup solely for his defense, has been average at best this season and cost us yesterday's game. I'm much more concerned with Heyward's lack of defense than Schwarber's at this point.
I don't care if I ever see Luke Farrell in a Cubs uniform again.
Kind of fun to look at Kerry Woods magical outing 20 years later. Hard to believe it's been that long. I remember watching it quite well from my dorm room at PAR.

I've always thought that the grounder that hit off of Kevin Orie's glove should have been ruled an error, but there is a lot of disagreement about that. That game could have easily been a no-hitter as well. I'll never forget one at-bat that someone on the Astros had when Wood threw a curve that was heading right at him, he buckled and turned his head around and the ball curved right over the middle of the plate. He just looked back at the umpire and Sandy Martinez who was catching and laughed.Kind of fun to look at Kerry Woods magical outing 20 years later. Hard to believe it's been that long.
