Chicago Cubs 2018 Season

What they scored 8 runs though ;)!!! I agree something needs to spark them. Murphy had a good game. Bryant can't come back soon enough.

Admittedly I was being a bit cheeky with that remark. Teams go through slumps. It happens. This offense still is 3rd in the NL in runs scored. Catastrophizing the temporary struggles of a sports team on a message board serves no purpose (in my opinion of course).

El Mago earning some MVP votes tonight with his glove and bat.

Oh, and this Cole Hamels fella was a nice little addition to this club.

After Hamels' first start for the Cubs, I joked "15 more just like that (playoffs included) and we'll be great."

Well, he's about a third of the way there.

If you had to choose between La Stella and Bote on a playoff roster, is there any doubt you take Bote at this point?

Hello Reds. Hello offense.

The 2018 Cubs are 7 games up on the 2017 Cubs through 128 games.

Does Hamel have enough time to match Sutcliffe's first year?

Sut went 16-1 with the Cubs that season after joining them on June 13th. So that would be no.

His only regular season loss coming at Dodger Stadium on a Friday or Saturday night in his first return back there after having been traded after the 1981 season. His fate with the Dodgers was sealed in early October of 1981, when Lasorda informed him he was being left off the post season roster, and he literally tore the office apart and had to be physically restrained from punching Tommy.

I watched that game that was a loss, and I think he let he emotions get to him that night, because he was not the same pitcher we saw from Jun-Sept that year.

Class in session. SWEEP!

And with the 9 runs scored today, the Cubs now lead the NL in runs scored.

Good job by the Cubs taking care of business this weekend. And thank you Cincinnati for sucking at baseball.

This is a good baseball team.
it is now finally. sure helps a lot when your leadoff man is hitting about since he's donned the cubbie blue.

you take him and Hamels, and they account for about 5-6 wins that the Cubs would most likely not have right now without them . If we can get back a healthy Kris Bryant, I like our chances in the National League playoffs . Cards have undoubtedly been one of the hottest teams in MLB the past 3-4 weeks, but I don't think they can hang with us the rest of the way. They are due to come back to earth a bit.

I like our chances better this year than last. The additions of Hamels and Murphy were pure genius

I always thought STL was a better team than the Brewers. They have way more talent and an MVP candidate. They are most likely our biggest obstacle in the NL, though the west is so heated not sure whoever comes out of that wont be the best NL team.

If we can get Morrow and Bryant back and being their usual selves and Chavez, Hamels, and Murphy continue to play like all-stars, I'd take the cubs against anyone.

I think a realistic pessimistic forecast for the remainder of the season (meaning a forecast that is on the lower rungs of a realistic expectation rather than an Eeyore-ish doom and gloom forecast) would be 17-15 in the remaining 32.

If the Cubs did that, the Cardinals would have to go 21-10 in their last 31 to tie for the division. That’s a 110-win pace. Of course, the Cards have been 23-8 over their last 31 (a 120-win pace) but teams simply don’t maintain a pace like that for very long. Not this year’s Red Sox. Not last year’s Dodgers. And this year’s Cardinals aren’t anywhere near as good as those teams.

I always thought STL was a better team than the Brewers.

I predicted the Brewers would be in third place way back when they signed Lorenzo Cain.

I believed I wondered out loud whether in April of 2020 when Lorenzo Cain turns 34 years old and the Brewers still owed $51M on his contract, would Brewers fans look back on this year’s 3rd place finish fondly.

Of course, Cain has been easily their best player this year, possibly the difference between an above and below .500 record. So maybe their answer to my question would be “yes.”
