Cubs acquire #25 ranked pitch-framing catcher Bobby Wilson from the Twins for Chris Gimenez and a PTBNL/cash considerations.

Vic has 4 weeks to show his value to the team to make it to the 25 man roster in Oct, should things go that way.
Contreras lack of framing can be explained away by his throwing. Vic not so much.

We do seem to rarely get the close outside or close low pitches , rarely are our catchers helping that cause

One out away from a shutout, but today's win guarantees a .500 season!

The 2018 Cubs are 6 games ahead of the 2017 Cubs through 136 games.

Magic number: 21.

Sloppy two games to open the series against Milwaukee. Assuming this game ends with a [ L ], hopefully it can be salvaged tomorrow.

Back for the last week of the season has been what I've read. Not ideal to be sure, but being healthy for the playoffs is really the only thing that matters.

Winning season is a lock (and an important series is salvaged)!

And hey, champaignchris, please let me know if I'm stealing your IL Cubs Thread thunder, but the magic number is down to...

It's 19. Both STL and MIL have 62 losses. That means the most games they can win is 100. The Cubs have 82 wins. So, any combination of 19 Cubs wins and MIL/STL losses wins the division.

ETA - So I guess insert image of Manny Trillo here.

Man if Morrow is out for the rest of the season, that's a huge blow. Chavez has looked great (sans the past ~15 hrs), and Strop has done well in the closer role, but that one last huge arm might have pushed us over the edge. Luckily, the starting pitching and hitters have looked good recently. Murphy solidifying that leadoff spot might be the best part of it, but Hamels gives him a run of their money.

Assuming Hamels has QS all the way till the playoffs, how do you not throw him out there game one? Lester has teetered way too much and Hendricks first inning woes haven't all disappeared. Q has actually looked great, not sure what his ERA has been over the past 5 or so starts, but I'd bet it's around 2.5. Those four, playing as they are now, will make a good (not great) starting 4 for the playoffs.

I'm going to take a moment to appreciate Quintana's start last night. 6.2 strong IP, in a game which could have been a two game swing in the standings. Well done, Q.

2.38 ERA over his last 4 starts. He's actually been pretty decent since his disastrous first four starts of the season (7.78 ERA in first four starts, 3.59 ERA since). His problem is that he hasn't been able to go deep into games. He's averaging just under 5 1/2 innings per start this year. He'd been averaging 6 1/4 innings a start in the 5 years before that.

This won't make a huge difference in the playoffs, but he certainly hasn't been the inning eating workhorse the Cubs thought they were getting when they traded for him.

Hoyer was interviewed on the SCORE yesterday and did not sound optimistic that he would be back. Things need to start happening in a hurry for him to return.

Ugh. That raises the real probability that none of the Cubs big free agent signings this off season will appear in the playoffs.

Just saw a tweet a few minutes ago. Morrow will go off a mound on Sunday. Want to try to get him back last week of season. I am not confident we will see him this year

Man, the Cubs bullpen has been terrible lately!

They don't even have one reliable reliever right now
