Chicago Cubs 2018 Season

I think he almost has to be suspended the rest of this year right? I get the innocent until proven guilty, and if she doesn't cooperate, it will be even more tricky, but I get a feeling since her excuse last time was she didn't want to validate others comments, that this time shes serious.

My money is on Russell never playing in the MLB again.

You can never be sure if the allegations are true or not (that isn't to imply I believe one person over the other) but it may be time for the Cubs to sever their ties with Addy; they cannot keep having this be a distraction.

Russell not with the team today. Theo going to have a private talk with the team.

My guess is we’ve seen the last of Russell in a Cubs uniform.

It’s not like these allegations are coming from out of the blue or that there haven’t been other issues with Russell.

I don’t think he plays for the Cubs again but based on what I have read so far I doubt his career is over. Unfortunately there are many playing baseball currently who seem to have done as much or worse. Probably disappear for a year and show up on someone’s AAA team with a tearful apology a domestic abuse counseling certificate.

I know that statistically speaking, the bullpen has been good this year. But this postseason, I am worried about what happens of the starters are taken out before the 7th. Maybe I am still wearing my 2017 goggles, but it's hard to trust Justin Wilson in high leverage situations. And maybe CJ will get back on track and Strop can come back, but neither is a guarantee. But I'll take every dent in the magic number I can get.

A big part of the last week of the season will be getting the bullpen right. Getting people rested, but not rusty. Fine tuning what matchups they will be responsible for. Etc.
It won't be one of those bullpens that if we're up after 6, game over. But I think it should be good enough to compete.

So with all the different NL playoff scenarios that can happen over this final week, there is one that does involve the Cubs (per mlb.com):

The Cubs and Brewers tie for first in the NL Central, with both clubs ahead of the Dodgers, Rockies and, naturally, Cardinals in winning percentage
The two clubs would play Monday at Wrigley Field (the Cubs won the season series, 11-8) for the NL Central title, and the loser would host the NL Wild Card Game the following day.

Eww, no thanks. I would much rather they just win out and avoid that scenario all together.

Honestly, this might be a worse case scenario than just losing the central but making the wild card game.

The Cubs have stumbled a bit over the last month. They’re 13-13 over their last 26. But give the Brewers credit. They’ve gone 18-7 over the same period of time. Christian Yellich is playing out of his mind and will probably be the NL MVP.

The Cubs look tired. And why shouldn’t they? By the end of the season, they’ll have had 2 off days in the last 49 days of the season. In contrast, the Brewers will have had 6.

I'm just trying to enjoy the ride. It's fun to be excited as a Cubs fan.

Quintana and Lester start tonight and tomorrow, followed by a trio of TBD at home versus St. Louis.

I'll give the hot take and be the only one sitting here saying it... I am STILL cheering against the Cardinals. We control our own destiny and until we lose that, I am all in on pulling for the Cardinals to miss the playoffs for the 3rd consecutive year. If that results in the Cubs hosting a Wild Card game instead of hosting the NLDS, well... see you all in the bleachers next Tuesday!

Unrelated to anything else, but has anyone else noticed how bad Jake Arrieta has been since June, and in particular over his last 6 starts?

If he were on the team right now, i’m not sure he’d get the ball over Quintana in the playoffs.

Cubs are a hot mess right now. Their most reliable reliever is probably Justin Wilson and he's not good.
