Chicago Cubs 2018 Season

If ONLY the Central or West require a tiebreaker, the game will be played at 3:09 PM CT and be hosted by either the Cubs or Dodgers.

If BOTH Central and West divisions go to a tiebreaker, the Cubs will host the Brewers with a 12:05 PM CT start, and the Dodgers hosting the Rockies at 3:09 PM CT.

The Cubs-Brewers loser would then host the Dodgers-Rockies loser on Tuesday night.

If the worst case scenario happens (have to play both Monday and Tuesday) at least the Cubs won’t have to travel.

Also, I don’t think the Cubs will have to face Kershaw if they play the Dodgers on Tuesday. Or if they do it will be on short rest and he’s been real bad in his career pitching on short rest.

I’m looking for silver linings.

Some other silver linings:
-Over the past few games, their approaches have looked real nice at the plate.
-Starting pitching has started to come back together, especially Hendricks.
-Strop should be coming back soon.
-The Cubs are in the playoffs for the 4th straight year. We should all be so grateful to be living in the golden era of Cubs baseball.

You're right it's easy to become jaded and expect perfection as a fan.

Yup, these are all good things and I’m happy to see the Cubs be in the playoffs 4 years in a row!

Some unlucky breaks with our off-season acquisitions have probably cost us a few games. But they played through it and had a 90+ win season!

Based on how we’ve limped to the finish line and our offense has been hit and miss, my realistic prediction is losing today, Brewers win, then we get bounced by the Dodgers in the wild card game. This team just seems to be running on fumes.

My hopeful prediction is a win today and clinch the central (with or without the Brewers tie-breaker) and then we march to the NLCS for the 4th year in a row.

That would be an astounding success in my book.

If the Dodgers lose the tie breaker, entering the Wild Card game, they will have played a game, flown from Frisco to LA, played another game and then flown from LA to Chicago or Milwaukee in just about 53 hours.

Isn't the Rockies situation worse? Denver to LA to Chicago/Milwaukee.

To answer your other question, I do not understand the jadedness of Cubs fans. This season was a lot of fun, despite being hit HARD by injuries. There are a few decisions made by Maddon that made me start to scratch my head (you HAVE to pinch hit for Strop there), but it is hard to quantify a few obvious head scratchers against what is clearly a manager that players will consistently support and makes the right decision the vast majority of the time. I don't think this Cubs team is on the level of '16, but if they win against the Brewers tomorrow, it is hard to find a team in the NL better suited to make it to the World Series.

You’re right. I’m just a lot more worried about the Dodgers than the Rockies.
Has that been announced yet? I assume it’s Chacin since it’s his turn but maybe the Brewers are trying to pull a fast one.
ESPN had it as Chacin then switched it to TBD. Brewers might do a bullpen day and then save Chacin for the Wild Card game or game 1 of the NLDS.

Of the four teams in this little double elimination tournament to see who makes the “real playoffs,” the Cubs are definitely set up best both with pitchers and travel.

It’s officially Chacin now.

That leaves the Brewers in a really tough spot if they lose today. Probably looking at a Wade Miley on Tuesday.

I'm interested in seeing what the weather is looking like? Any good forecasts out there?

Rain coming to the western burbs ~5/6 PM. Wrigley should be fine for the game, barring a large amount of extras.

This lineup is our best by far. I don't get the whole 8/9 thing that much, but I would've personally switched Either Heyward or Shwarber with Contreras. I wont complain though, since this is basically a redux of yesterday and something Maddon rarely does, so my frustration has been quelled for now.
