Yeah, that is an underwhelming trade for Cubs. I knew when I heard the hold up was financial that the return wasn’t going to be great, but I was hoping for more than that. Hopefully that savings is being reinvested into the roster.

Acquiring Tucker likely tanked some of Jed’s leverage, but you don’t make the Tucker move without putting your chips in on the one season we are certain to have him. I fully expect a corresponding move to strengthen the rotation.

The real return they get for Bellinger is whatever they sign with the $25 million or so they’re not spending on his salary. Can’t really judge until free agency is over.

I assume they’re looking for a starter, a couple relievers and a bench bat that can play third.

don’t forget a new clubhouse attendant & another guy who can pull that 2ft section of cyclone fence around the infield after the 4th inning :)

I heard they might be bringing back the Smoky Link wagon, so they'll need someone to put out the fires there.
(If anyone gives me a thumbs up, I'll know how old you are.)
I’m not THAT old (58) but my great uncle and grandma would regale a young bdutts on the old Wrigley.

I think that most Cub fans were in favor of Bellinger opting out of his contract this year. Well, this was BETTER than that, as the Cubs deferred half of their required payment to Bellinger until a year later AND got a Starting pitcher, Poteet in the bargain.

Some of you bellyache about everything the Cubs do and want to blame Cubs management even when they make a good, not great, deal. Now they've got $50 Million to spend on players for '25. That is a MUCH better position than they were pre-Bellinger trade.

I think too many of you guys spend too much time reading the asinine, vulgar comments by the druggies in Bleacher Nation...

The Cubs are building a much better club in '25 than '24 or '23. And they're not done yet!

Been a Cub fan for 70 years--been to 100's of games, and just cuz they don't $600 million on ONE player you want them fired into the sun.

Patience, grasshopper...

Agree with your take on the trade. I'd like to wait to judge it to see who they spend the money on, but I do like the flexibility the savings can provide.

I'm hoping it means they're staying in the Roku sweepstakes but that's probably just wishful thinking.

What's your reason for dislike bleacher nation? I think they have written very similar sentiments as you about the trade. I usually enjoy their insight on players, prospects and such. Maybe I missed something with them.

Bleacher Nation is GREAT! I check on it/ read it several times a day. I was talking about the (non) fan comments at the end of each article . The Cub's article comments (and the Bears) are almost entirely negative, gross, full of F words, and intellectually inept. I like comments that are spent on talking about baseball and how to improve the Cubs and the game, not insulting cub leadership and their sexual preferences.

I ran big companies before I retired and people like those commentators would be frog-marched out the door.
