I don't know. The way the Cubs and Phillies have both been playing lately, I don't think either would want to face the Padres in the Wildcard. Padres have been on fire lately. Almost would rather take my chances with the Braves, who we just beat.

Cubs remain tied with Padres and one ahead of Philly. Cubs go 3-3, Padres must go 4-2 and Phillies 5-1 to pass Cubs. Cubs go 4-2 they should hold the top wildcard spot. Brewers, LA, and Tampa should all be trying to win to have home advantage if they make the series making the Padres and Philly chances of winning more than 3 games tough.
It looks like we will clinch on Tuesday.

Wonder if they will put Steele on the roster this week and try to pitch him a couple times.
Question: Let's say they put Steele on the roster and he does "OK" in a couple games this week. Who would you prefer in a bullpen role in the Wildcard? Steele or 2 of the 5 starters who wouldn't be starting in a 3 game series? Or keep all 3 and knock off 3 guys presently in the bullpen?

I think it would have to be better than "OK" for him to be considered for the wildcard roster. Also, who are the three starters you're going with? If he is ready to get in a few games, I look at it as more information for Hoyer and Counsell to consider to put the best roster out there. I'm assuming that if they are matched up with the Phillies, the more lefties you have might be better to face Schwarber and Harper. Maybe he doesn't figure into it if they are playing the Padres. As far as starters making the pen for the wildcard, if you are playing the Phillies I think Imanaga for sure should be in the pen if he doesn't start one of the three games. If it's the Phillies, right now I would go with Holmes, Boyd, & Peterson. I really don't have much faith in Gausman.

The WC series on who will pitch those three games will be decided on how Craig maps out the week. Imanaga is going today which means he will go Sunday if the game means something. Tomorrow, Gausman goes which will be his last start of the regular season. Craig has yet to pick a starter for Thursday. He could go with Boyd on Thursday which would allow him to start Game 1 on Tuesday. He could also go with Holmes coming off an extra day rest. So if I was a betting man, it would seem that Craig will use either Boyd or Holmes in Game 1. The odd man out of that would pitch Game 2. Then if Game 3 is needed, Imanaga. Now looking at San Diego as they are most likely our opponent as they have a slightly easier schedule than Philly, they hit left handed pitching better than right handed pitching, slightly. But they strike out a fourth of the time against lefties. So Craig could go Boyd, Holmes and Imanaga as R-L-R. We can use Gausman, Civale and Peterson as long men that can eat a couple of innings and use Palencia, Rolison, Zeferjahn and Cabrera in the late innings. Craig will map out the plan for the next six games which will determine how he will handle the pitchers in the playoffs

Cubs offense has been frustrating tonight. Especially in the tenth and eleventh. They were way too anxious with that Marlins reliever in the tenth who couldn’t throw strikes.
After 11 innings, the Cubs are 1-15 w/RISP. That is beyond bad.
Not only shouldn't Edward Cabrera not be on the playoff roster, he shouldn't be allowed within 20 miles of wherever they are playing.
